thefutureperfectlogo.jpgIf you talk about design in Brooklyn at any length, The Future Perfect will come up. With the borough bustling with design talent, it is surprising that the stores were so slow to come along, but since they have, David Alhadeff's flagship design shop (2003) has led the pack with edgy, experimental design. Call it Moss in Brooklyn or whatever, but a stop here is essential if you're checking out the scene...

As you might expect, the designs at The Future Perfect are contemporary, but we saw more wood and steel than resin and glossy fiberglass. Some of the pieces are pretty far out, but the diversity and whimsy of the overall feel belie the shop's practicality.

We were also struck by the Scrapile Dining Table , a beautiful, minimalist rectangular construction made out of laminated scrap plywood.

NYMag says: "The Future Perfect is the primary showcase for Redstr, Hivemindesign, Matt Gagnon, and other Brooklyn designers like Jason Miller, Scrapile, the Design Can, Lindsay Wiesenthal, and Sarah Cihat."

Great store, on the edge for creativity. But certain items can be extremely expensive. There are many eclectic stores in that area, and The Future Perfect makes for a good stop when gathering design ideas.
