NY Good Questions: Window Treatment For Our Dining Room?

6.9kitchen1.jpgDear AT,

I recently renovated my entire downstairs of my house so we now have a mostly open floor plan.

I am finally finished and love everything about it except I'm having trouble picking out window treatments for our dining room windows.

We have a french door to the left of the windows which we are not covering...

There are no windows in the kitchen unfortunately so I need something that has an option of letting light in.

Our neighbors live close by so I do need some type of privacy barrier.

In our living room, we used wooden blinds from smith & noble, but because we have that cherry wood bookcase and our dining room table and benches, I'm hesitant to use wood blinds.

I'm not opposed to fabric or honeycomb shades that have top down/bottom up...we are really open to anything.

I'm just unsure what would look good.

Thanks! Tate

If privacy is an issue, I'm wondering why the OP didn't deal with this during renovation by installing stained glass windows or windows with frosted glass panels?

At this point, I'd just put up some frosted window film.

I'm not sure I would use frosted window film. I don't really like the look. I would like a window covering for the room. Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe I will check them out.

We used very simple white (see-through) roller blinds for a modernist renovation some years ago. They filter about 60 % of UV rays and are very laid back. We were very happy with them.

I don't recall the name (will try and find it). Costco definitely sells them ... we got our from bestblinds.com.

Since they don't make a statement they would go well with any other window covering.

Ok: I found them: they are called Phifer Sheerweave 2000. Ours were "Alabaster" which is as subtle as it gets.

I'm sure I'll get a lot of disagreement, but I would put some white wood blinds up on those windows. I think it would look really good with the white window trim. Going with white could save you a few buck too because you should be able to purchase faux wood without compromising the look. Best of luck!

I really like the Phifer Sheerweave shades. I am unsure of what color though. White? or a brown? or a color?
