apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Overstock.com

2004_10_7_over.gifYard sale for new things. Looking for a new duvet, sheets, or even a new home office chair? While we shop for most things in Manhattan, we use Overstock.com regularly for pricey items that are not style sensitive.

2004_10_7_down.jpgFor example with the cold weather coming, we just purchased a queen-sized
Eco-friendly 230-Thread Count Down Comforter for $50 that retails for $200. But what was the brand? They don't tell you. When the comforter arrived we found it was from Pacific Coast and was sold on their site for $180.... a great comforter and a great deal.

2004_10_7_rain.jpgOverstock sells everything from event tickets to iPods, but for our purposes they sell cordless drills, vacuums, air purifiers, rugs, outdoor and indoor furniture, as well as showerheads and bedding. They sell the $45 Rainfall oversized shower head for $20.

This isn't all the most beautiful stuff, but if you are in the market for household items, we recommend taking a peek here first. MGR

I LOVE Overstock.com!! I've been using them for a while for everything.

They have great shipping prices too!

Not exactly apartment related....(storage related!) but they have their own line of bags called "PRAGUE" and they are great. Amazing quality and you don't feel like you are walking down the street with the same knock-off bag as everyone else.

I got wood planters from Overstock. The hardware color ran into the wood, and worse, they all just fell apart and were really poorly made. But...they were cheap!

In the past I've been very happy with Overstock but recently I bought a down comforter that ended up having barely any down in it! I'm going through the returns process but it's taking forever.

I've bought MANY things for my new co-op from Overstock.com and I have been very happy 95% of the time. On the couple of errors (wrong style of sunglasses shipped, clothes sizes not true) they have been great to deal with. My favorite was buying a 10'x13' wool rug for less than $500.00 and only $2.95 to ship! The petite delivery woman from Fed Ex was not amused, however.

I bought 3 Asian rugs this past May that I absolutely loved, were great quality, beautiful, a steal price-wise. Then I bought 2 pieces of furniture, both of which were damaged and had to be returned, and have spent the past MONTH on the phone almost EVERY DAY with their customer service, supervisors and corporate office trying to get these items out of my apt. I finally got the last piece out on Friday, only to have it returned to me by the shipping company who didn't attach the call tag they were supposed to attach to it & *VOILA*! guess where it is???? And I'm on crutches to boot. I will NEVER order from them again.

Do not buy from these people! Atrocious customer service! Delivery is a 50/50 chance, you might never get what you ordered and then find out it is out of stock all along, trying getting a refund from these people is near impossible - long telephone waits and they still mess up. As mentioned before, a few pieces I ordered came damaged in heavily "beat up" boxes.

Overstock.com has progressively gone down the tubes.
I have ordered in the past and the delivery/customer service was good. I recently ordered 2 end tables, which were delivered damaged. The boxes they were in look like they were thrown around. I called customer service waited over 15 minutes, told them the problem. They told me I would have to ship them back AT MY COST!!!! I wanted a supervisor and all I got was voice mail. Finally I did ship them back and I wanted them returned. I am still waiting for my credit card to be reimbursed, 2 months of this sh*t and aggravation. I filed a report with the BBB. You have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overstock.com currently has a great, heavily discounted selection of tables from the Todd Oldham for Laz-y-boy collection. I just order the Snap Walnut coffee table, end table, and entertainment center for about $400 (with a coupon I found online). These are the same items that are currently on display at the Soho showroom. Just thought I'd share this great find!
