Jennifer's DIY Workspace & Home Office
Before & After

We've featured Jennifer Levy's smart solutions before — she repurposed a Marais stool as a sink pedestal. Jennifer has sent us pictures of her office makeover which she completed using a combination of IKEA and leftover materials from previous renovation projects.

From Jennifer:

1 My inspiration board made from leftover fabric, with a vintage typing table.

3 Adding more shelving — IKEA's Ekby — and re-using an old stainless rolling cart increased storage and took advantage of the high ceilings. The Eames swivel chair was inherited from my grandmother, and softened with an IKEA Ludde sheepskin.

5 The desk was made by finishing two leftover doors with water-based ‘pickling’ paint. The IKEA Kvartal curtain system was used under the desk to hide file cabinets and supplies. Ductwork, leftover from the renovation was repurposed to hold design drawing. The magnetic board is a found frame with a piece of sheet-metal custom-cut by a local sheet-metal fabricator. A robins egg blue sets off the grommet curtains made from IKEA linen print fabric (originally bought for my 'collection')

7 The Murphy bed was concealed with curtains I added a bottom border to with leftover linen. The bonus surprise was that when the bed is down with the curtains pulled over with the tie-backs it frames the bed and creates a cozy nook.

Thanks, Jennifer!

Nice it looks great and looks like a real office, nice to see this on AT. Love the reuse of materials too. Oh like the color of the walls.

Great style - and industrial that doesn't look TOO hard and doesn't cost a fortune is great!

Ever since a post on painting pianos, and my general confusion of what to do with mine:

What did you do with your piano?

Jennifer Levy is truly wonderful to work with !!!! All the changes she suggested for our home has been clever, stylish and easy to implement! After taking months to decide what to do, we had her come for a deign consultation- best money I EVER spent! Highly recommended!

Thanks for the comments -- to answer a couple of questions: The paint color on the walls is Benjamin Moore bird's egg in a matte finish. And I painted that piano a glossy red and moved it to another spot. It took a couple of days but was worth it! Sand lightly, use a good primer like Zinsser 1-2-3 and oil-based paint.
