9-7-shimna1.jpgShimna is a lovely mystery. Recently popping up on Lafayette street, they have managed to create a whole new look and feel for the most basic of shapes and materials. They are boxy but feminine, rough by cozy and design tension arises out of surprising juxtapostions. Think BDDW, De La Espada and Conran rolled into one.

9-7-shimna3.jpgThe Shimna collection is carefully edited and small as of yet, consisting of pieces that range from armchair to dining table to the eyecatching Beam Sofa with it's blocky legs. Materials are North American hardwoods, leather and fur, and manufacturing is also in the US. Some of the wood is recycled and all finishes are natural.

Shimna also offers design services. Prices? We've put in a call but don't know yet. We expect that with stuff this nice, with options and being made in the US, it won't be cheap. (Via Design*Sponge. Thanks, Grace!)

Wow! I went to this store last weekend and then I saw it on DesignSponge this morning and now here, too! These guys must be the hottest designers around these days.

The "L-sectional" shaped BEAM sofa is $6800 in fabric.... two sofas in one for that price.... and that's the only info on cost I could find.

only one sofa, depending on woods for the base & leather/fabric choice, we're probably looking around $3000-4000 for a standard sized sofa or sofa-chaise.

great great looking stuff.

I guess I'm getting too old. Or maybe I'm too short. It looks nice, but I can't imagine sitting on those chairs or the sofa for more than two minutes -- the seats look too long and the backs too short for comfort. But for something to just look at and say "look how much I paid for this", well, er, um...

i admire their spirit, however, unless the have trust-fund-deep pockets, they will be out of business with this business model in a year or 2.

Oh Wow. This is just fabulous. If beautiful furniture is your thing and comfort is necessary Shimna is it. You get what you pay for! Gotta love it.
