Q: I am travelling from Australia to New York in a few weeks and would love to hear suggestions about where to shop for girls and boys rooms, in particular vintage, unique and handmade items as well as fabrics for girls rooms. Thanks!

Editor: For fabric, a stop at Purl Soho gets my vote. If you're willing to venture out to Queens, you'd probably like Site. NYC Readers - where should Lindy go?

Most hotels will accept packages for guests. I'd hope on etsy.com and order some goodies!
There used to be a big flea market I would often find great vintage fabric, but have not done so for a while. Now its moved to Hells Kitchen 39th & 9th. Antiques Garage on the weekend on 25th & 6th. Also Brooklyn Flea Fort Green and Williamsburg. Please forgive me if people think otherwise. I have not gone in a couple of years. With limited space I am keeping away from my triggers.
She could go to NY' garment center & go to B&J Fabrics on 7th Ave. Great selection of children's prints & thematic prints.
First of all for fabrics, I would most definitely take a tour by Purl Soho. Not only will you find adorable stuff there, but it's the best place for inspiration! I'd pick up a few Oliver and S patterns while you're there.
As far as vintage and handmade items, I definitely second Brooklyn Flea. It's amazing!
For Fabrics: Purl Soho, Fiber Notion (brooklyn,) Mood Fabrics, New York Elegant, B&J, City Quilter, Les Toiles du Soleil
For other items: ABC Home, Fish's Eddy (cool decorative pieces- Alice and Wonderland, etc,) museum gift shops (especially the Rubin Art Museum.)
