Humble Materials. We were super-excited for the newestT Style Magazine: Design that arrived this past weekend. One of our favorite pieces profiled Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek in The Imperfectionist. known for his scrap wood furniture, Eek has made a name for himself by being ecologically responsible and highlighting beauty of material and craftmanship..."By avoiding the expense of high-end materials and fixtures, Eek can invest in his work force. A basic economic principle of modern society is that the less labor you use, the more money you save, he says. But I thought I would turn that around, using the materials that people throw away and adding as much labor as possible to them. Ultimately, people notice all the attention that goes into making the pieces."
This is a quick read and one ATers should enjoy don't miss it!
