We've been considering alternative wall decoration for kids' rooms recently. What are the options? There are plenty of unique and interesting prints out there, like these ecclectic prints or these ABC prints. But what about using material objects on the wall? We found three ideas we love, and we're looking for more!
In the examples above, household items have been used as art on the walls, from the large abacus to the guitar to vintage Little People figures. It's a great way to create unusual and perhaps more meaningful decor for kids.
The possibilities could be endless. But we want to know what you think. Have you ever used an object as wall decor in a child's room? What other pieces might work well as decoration? Let us know in the comments.

Nomade Express Slee...
Me parece un color ideal pero muy atrevido, el problema es que toda la atención se desvía a ese punto.
I like the xylophones!
I wouldn't put toys on the wall unless you're ok with the kiddos standing on the furniture to reach and play with them... that abacus and guitar are tantalizingly reachable.
I used an vintage metal baseball game, about two feet long, over the boy's bed. It looked very nice. But of course, once he got tall enough to stand on the bed, he grabbed at it all the time and slid it back and forth, quickly wearing a half circle into the wall where the corners hit. Had to take it down. Maybe when he's older.
Love the oversized abacus!
we used a piece of his own artwork in our sons room. i was making a chalkboard and he splashed water on it while the paint was drying so we salvaged it and turned it into art. :http://www.lifeonchurchill.com/2011/10/evolution-of-chalkboard-part-2.html
My son has a huge butterfly kite on the wall of his room. It looks beautiful, and we fly it sometimes too! We also have a quilt on the wall.
Well, the idea is, if you don't want them to play with the wall installation, you redirect them to the other one you have already. ;-) Or you mount it high enough so it looks fine and can't be messed with.
I have no problem reinforcing the distinction. Toy stores have all kinds of trains, planes, oversized whatever hanging from ceilings and walls.
Lovely ideas, thank you for the posting. With safe mountings like I see in the posts I don't think items put up that high necessarily register as toys to the little ones, unless perhaps you took something your child was already attached to and then plopped it up on the wall. (Hmmm...now that would be evil.) I have the CB2 Abacus attached quite securely high above my son's crib and it hasn't even begun to tempt either him or my 2 year old. I enjoy having something in the nursery with that kind of tactile whimsy, especially as we share a room with him and I spend a lot of time facing his nursery nook. I have wondered if it would be worth the effort to spray paint the frame white...
I love these creative ideas! Great for a variety of textures and color!
Well, some good objects to decorate a child's room with would be Oil Drop Timers. They can be found at http://www.oildropper.com/shop/shop.php
