This made us laugh. The Off light switch hook, designed by Die Electric, promotes keeping lights turned off, we guess. But seriously, maybe the switch could be reversed so that when a coat hangs on it, pushing it down, the light turns on.
That way, when you're home the lights can be on. And when you take you coat from the hook and go out, it's a constant reminder to turn the light off (or even spring load it so the light's turned off when the weight of the coat is removed).
Anyway, there are lots of other similar great designs by Die Electric, which is an electrical outlet product collection by product designer Scott Amron. The Off switch hook pictured up top sells for $35. (via Treehugger).

That's easy to do. Just switch the wires inside the box. Then, when it's down, it's on.
Trust me, my formerchiefelectricalinspector dad's been doing it for years. You can't assume that "down" means "off" in _any_ of his kid's houses. :)

Sadly, this is with out any question the dumbest and most useless item I have ever seen advertised for sale. How could anybody even consider this a good idea? Holy sh@&* I literally feel dumber just knowing that I read the description and seeing this exsists. $35?
i could see it as helpful for someone who has manual trouble with operating small switches. but for regular use, it is kind of ridiculous. and bumping into it would be a pain.

Wow, this product is goofy. I can imagine clumsy people, like me, walking into the switch on a daily basis.
Archie, I would disagree strongly. If it's true *design* then, no.
But there are products out there designed for whimsy or just to get people to reconsider form and function.
I just found it hilarious that "exsists" (sic) followed "I literally feel dumber..."!
Assuming the on/off/up/down issue could be rectified, I think this a fairly brilliant way to keep track of your house keys...
Sorry Velochic, switching the wires doesn't change anything. (It's a switch, it is either on or off, no matter how its wired.) If you want to reverse the direction, you unscrew the switch, rotate it, and screw it back in upside down.
If you visit the Die Electric website, the whole point of his products is to have alternate use for electrical outlets/switches. i think the artist's intent was to have the switch in the off position... not using energy, but using the switch as a hook. but i guess it would work either way!
