Take a look at this stunning home on the Great Barrier Island where there is no access to municipal water or electricity. Yep, you guessed it: every one of the island's thousand permanent residents remarkably resides off the grid. Lance and Nicola Herbst designed the house, working with the intricacies of the area and paying close attention to bringing the indoors out...With all its modern provisions (solar panels, a water collection system, and other off-the-grid necessities), this home is still designed not unlike the timber shacks found in the area.
