Location: Takoma Park, MD
Child: Emmeline, 5 1/2 months
Inspiration: Em's room has great natural light, which we wanted to maximize as much as possible. We also wanted to find a color that would work well for a little lady or a little fella, and that wouldn't overwhelm the space. This color is just perfect -- it was initially a bit of a shock because it was so bright, but I soon realized that it changes to the most calming shades of yellow as the day goes on, and makes everything else in the room feel warm and inviting. It also exactly matches our baby's personality: loving, cheerful and spunky!
Tip for Using Color: Accessories can go a long way to making an inexpensive nursery look great. We found a super cheap, old rocking chair on Craigslist, and painted it white and reupholstered it. It's my favorite part of the nursery. We also bought Ikea furniture and switched out the dresser and armoire handles to add a little character to the pieces. Finally, we added personality to the walls with various prints that we found on Etsy.
