Inspiration: When my husband and I were dating, we had visited Disneyland together. I'm a graphic designer, and I fell in love with the vintage artwork featured throughout the park, the Matterhorn bobsleds poster in particular...
Inspiration Continued For my birthday, he bought one for me and had it framed. While I'm not into "character"-themed rooms in any way, I really loved the styling of this particular image and just knew that we'd use it in our kids' room(s) someday. Thus, the inspiration!
Tip for Using Color: Like many others have said, you just can't be afraid of color. But on the other end of the spectrum, I appreciate it when kids' rooms can be integrated into the rest of the house. It's always jarring to walk into a child's room and it's obnoxiously bright and different from the rest of the house.

What an interesting space. Could you explain it a bit more? Is that little room a converted closet, or another bedroom turned playroom, or...
It's a pity that they developed the color scheme of the sitting room around the vintage Disney poster for the Matterhorn only to hid it behind a chair. I would rather see it pop up against the yellow walls of the adjoining room.

a! - you asked about explaining the space a bit more. The playroom space is attached to the bedroom; it was originally attic space, and the previous owner of the house opened it up, turning a rather bland bedroom into a more exciting space. It was actually the thing that sold me on the house.

I love this. I don't love theme-y, character rooms so much either. the colors are rich and still soothing. Totally original and lovely style!
I really like the bookshelf with the drawer on the bottom. Where is that from? Seems like a great little nook : )
javagrrrl -- they're from Pottery Barn Kids. We have a pair of them. It's a great place to hide all those stuffed animals, down in that drawer!
