Wire baskets, lockers, and other finds at flea markets may be too rusty to reuse in everyday spaces, but they make great containers to hold decorative items. This upcycled project from My Ramblings' blog is a good source of style inspiration. With handprinted cards and some wildflowers in the middle, this otherwise rusty old gym locker has been turned into something much more quaint.
Old wire baskets, like chicken coops, collapsible produce baskets, and old bike baskets, don't have to be retired to scrap metal when rust sets in. First, try cleaning off the rust with these five rust removal tips. Then play with colors and paint that you can adjust to better match your home, or keep the metal look. Adding in small dividers in between sections, like the example above, can make them more functional.
They are wonderful to hold cards, craft suppliers, flowers, random small items like buttons, and other memorabilia like postcards and photos.
What would you do with an old metal locker in your home?
