Greeting from South Africa! The very creative entrepreneurs behind Daddy's World wowed us again with their brand new project — a boutique trailer park on an apple orchard just an hour outside of Cape Town. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the attention to detail — when these guys do something, they do it well.
After arriving at a barn styled reception — straw bales and all — you take a boardwalk to twelve vintage Airstream suites and a luxury cottage, Daddy’s Villa. Each retreat was individually designed by South African artists and designers, including Sacha Olivier, Mark & Joe Stead and Jeannie Sherwood & Kirsten Townsend.
Every Airstream has a living room (which doubles as a second bedroom) and a bathroom attached in a beautifullyl minimalist style.
The Old Mac Daddy restaurant is also on the premises and is a design masterpiece in itself. The restaurant is situated in the barn with the most beautiful view over the valley.
Old Mac Daddy is very child-friendly and you will find an apple themed (in keeping with the surrounding) kids room in the barn, too. I was amazed by the creative use of materials and furniture, almost all the pieces were multi-functional.
The best part of this experience was that it was totally affordable and I hope it stays this way! For prices and information see: Old Mac Daddy and Facebook Group | Old Mac Daddy.

Gasp! Gasp, again! Wait, gasp!
Every picture was a thrill. Nice work, South African resort-designing people.
That's a clever use of hanging lamp cord polyester covers around the bed in the ninth photo.
Nice, but kind of depressing knowing that the townships (slums) outside of Cape Town, which stretch for miles and miles, are so nearby. There are millions of people without proper housing, most without water or electricity. But if you're rich, you can pretend to "slum it" in your very own luxurious trailer! Kind of sick.
AN apple-themed..... siiiggghhh...
Love shack baby, love shack.
There has never been anything "slummy" about an Airstream. Recreational vehicles have always been for the wealthy. Puhlease. I think they look awesome! I also love how the ceilings are decorated. Makes the best of a small space.
By that token, hystericglamour, we should ditch AT San Francisco until that city's enormous homeless problem has been solved. And get rid of AT Chicago as well, given that city's large underclass. And what about all of those people freezing on the streets in NYC?
Maybe it'd be best just to delete AT altogether so that we can all concentrate on the plight of the poor.
Should we say that nothing nice should exist until all that is not nice no longer exists? We would be waiting a long time for something nice. And if we truly lived in a global world, we would have to forgo our own "nice" things until those slums were cleared up.
Bringing industry/tourism/interest to South Africa, or any other place with troubles, can only help.
This is really cool design and unique draw for a very beautiful country.
