Olivia enjoyed her stay in Ludington, Michigan. She enjoyed this stroll to the lighthouse after breakfast, and taking her baths on the front porch to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible.
The city and location the photo was taken in: Ludington, Michigan on a walk towards the big Lighthouse. We had just had a huge breakfast of Swedish pancakes and needed to burn off some calories. Here Olivia is practicing her stroller acrobatics during our walk.
Your favorite baby or child-friendly activity there: Watching the SS Badger come into the harbor with its loud foghorn and billowing smoke clouds. After our walk we visited the toddler swings at Stearns park and later in the week had ice cream for mom and dad at the downtown House of Flavors. I know when she gets a little bigger she will really enjoy the Clown Band performances at the local historical park and the outdoor kids movies shown outside on Thursday evenings.
Your best tip or words of wisdom for traveling with kids: Michigan in August has the most incredible weather so we really wanted to take advantage of being outdoors as much as possible. We kept a lot of our daily routine the same but tweaked it a bit by moving Olivia's bathtime outside onto the front porch and setting up an outdoor play area. Its important to find a balance between trying new things and keeping the daily routine so that some things stay familiar.
Your favorite way to make it feel like home: We were shocked at how dificult it can be to travel with a baby. Keeping a handy stash of cheerios, blankets and pacifiers helped ease the dificult moments. A new toy brought out of mom's bag every couple of hours also helped the two day journey.
An item you MUST take with you when traveling: We had to stop a couple of times on the drive from Washington, DC to Ludington and found that our plastic Fisher Price Booster seat was indispensible! Olivia was able to sit right up to any table we were eating at and enjoy her own meal. It really was a lifesaver. Also, microwaveable sterilization bags helped with keeping bottles and parts cleaned when we were staying in a hotel. Another handy item was a portable/collapsible laundry basket!
