Bedding is one of those things you can always find on sale, no matter what time of year. Yesterday, when we had to replace our extra sheets in time for some last-minute house guests, we ran by Macy's after work and found a basic set priced at 40 percent off. For those who are also on the hunt for discount bedding, we've compiled a list of good places to look...
• Macy's: Gotta love the closeout prices
• Marshalls and TJ Maxx: Good all-around discount shops
• Designer Linens Outlet: Just what the name says (online only)
• Crate & Barrel Outlet: Last season's C&B collections at lower prices
• Restoration Hardware Outlet: High-quality stuff on deep discount
• West Elm: You can usually find half-off sheets and quilts year-round
• The Company Store: They keep a rotating selection of clearance items online
• Garnet Hill: Like the Company Store, they've always got sale stock online
• Unison Warehouse Sales: Every once in a while, this indie company offers huge price cuts at their Fulton Street warehouse

Good heavens, sheets are on sale everywhere! I bought a hand-stitched old fashioned white linen and lace pillow (pricey French luxury brand) for a very small sized pillow yesterday for $20. Originally $100. I would have NEVER paid $100 for a pillowcase. However, at $20, I could allow myself to think that it looked like something that my grandmother would have put in her trousseau in the 1920s and kept forever. It reminds me of her. As readers of my comments may know, anything that reminds me of that particular grandmother is irresistable to me (if I have the money). She was a beautiful, kind, intelligent woman who lived well in good times and carried herself through bad times with equal dignity and kindness. Unforgettable and inspirational.
I think the ubiquity of sheet markdowns might be something called deflation.

West Elm on sale = normal store not on sale ;-)
Ross is always good for finding a good deal on nice sheets. (but you have to physically go into the store)
Linensource.com has good deals too.
Tuesday Morning carries lovely high quality sheets at massive discount prices. You can find lovely designer bedding on the very cheap.
i'm shopping for new sheets and am ready to throw down for quality. i like the soft/cold feeling sheets (do you know what i mean?) and hate scratchy. any suggestions???
amazon also frequenly has very inexpensive sheets.
Gotta second the overstock rec. But read the reviews before you buy!!!! some of the higher thread count sheets aren't really that great but I've gotten some fabulous bedding bargains. And the 2 day shipping is super cheap (like 2 dollars). I loved the last set I bought so much that I bought two more sets so I could change them more frequently.
I second ross - decent sheet sets for under $20 - who can beat that?
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Home Goods!! Love Home Goods for sheets and just about everything else.
I've got to comment on where *not* to buy sheets... Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Don't be suckered in by the good prices on their "Hotel" bedding, 600 count. Yes, the fabric is high quality but the sizing (at least for a queen) is way off in the width. I have a mattress that's 11" high, the package says 18" and I struggled to get the darn thing on; so narrow that the corners pooch into little mountains.. What a joke! And this is before shrinkage.
