Poesy's mom brilliantly repurposed a donkey pinata head leftover from a birthday party to use as wall decor.
You don't have to decide if you think real taxidermy is creepy or beautiful when there are so many faux taxidermy options. We're seeing them more and more in kids rooms and we think we know why: they add texture and dimension to walls and, hey, kids love animals.
Looking back through our archives, the animals heads trend in kids rooms began about a year ago and we've see quite a variety of different materials: from cardboard to plush to (possibly my favorite) pinatas. You can peruse the images above to see ten great examples - click through the linked captions to see more of each room.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I think I could get behind a pinata head, but the others are just too creepy and sad.
I find it really creepy.
I think it's cool. I also like real taxidermy in kids rooms. Unless you're a vegetarian, it ain't like dead animals aren't a daily part of most of our lives.
Where can one find that air balloon chandelier in the first photo?
Real or false taxidermy, equally creepy to me...
I dig the pinata and the felt deer head. Very cute. The realistic ones are just not my style.
As long as no one is creeped out by my putting a human head replica on my child's wall, this makes sense.
eek.
I think they can be super cute, but can't get on board with even the obviously imaginary ones (I saw a unicorn on etsy). It's too weird to me!
My 4 year old daughter wanted a bull head for her room. Then I read her Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose. I think that changed her mind.
I don't find the stuffed animal ones creepy. Just odd. I mean, why would I detach the head from the plushie's body and mount only the head?
I have a neighbor who has an atrocious elk head mounted over the fireplace, and I can't get into animal head trophies. Nope.
We also have a burro piñata head in my daughter's room. Not scary at all, and it broke off (well, got kicked off) the piñata perfectly at the base of the neck, so was so easy to hang.
p.s. Here's her dollhouse featured here a few weeks ago. Shameless plug:

Creepy. Like giving toy guns. Takes away from the reality of the situation!
I just love the rug in Ike's room.
I'll add that with the smaller heads, they look less like mounted animal parts to me and more like animals coming out of the walls.. which I could see also being creepy to some people, but I think it's kind of magical in a weird way.
