I love a good "get it for less" post, just like I love a good "before and after." Today is all about creating a beautiful kid's room for a range of parents' budgets. Click to see what this room configuration costs, then explore ways to get a similar look and feel, for a variety of prices.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Love this post! Keep them coming!
Yes, great idea for post.
Love this! So helpful to see styles in different budgets.
Definitely would love to see more posts like this! Great idea!
I love the color of that $8500 rug, but would be afraid to walk on it!!
Totally fun! I am always looking for more budget-friendly design resources and would love to see more posts like this.
Fun AND helpful--love it!
YES!!!! Love it. :)
Would love to see a category below the lowest prices shown here... still outta my budget :(
An $18,000 vintage rug? I know you're showing a "range of budgets" but that's just insane.
Fantastic! Would love to see more posts like this! And I loved seeing that the Walmart elephant was the most expensive--goes to show that finding a deal isn't always about going big box, it's about hunting well.
Yes, please keep them coming.
More of this, please.
LOL at the $18K rug
Buyer beware with rugsusa.com. I'm in the process of getting a refund from them-- It took three weeks of complaints/requests for the refund process to start. My reason for requesting a refund? because my rug hadn't arrived after 6 weeks of waiting for delivery-- even though the rug was in stock when I ordered it. Yes, after 6 weeks, the rug had not even shipped. If I'm lucky, my refund will arrive THREE months after my purchase. Their customer service was horrible. I've discovered that many people have had similar experiences.
More post like this, please! Gorgeous color choices. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yes, more please, but lower the price on what counts as "affordable".
This is wonderful- the patterns are so well chosen! Please keep these posts up!
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! YES YES YES keep doing these posts!
merci.
PS
But close the post with the high and low next to each other so it's easier to compare. It's a PITA to scroll back and forth between each.
More, please.
Although this is a kid's bedroom? My kid would only be so lucky...I'd be saving this for myself.
Fun indeed.
yes! we live on a SUPER tight budget and although second hand stores are cool and fun, sometimes i just want to buy something new and fun!
MORE PLEASE!!!
yes please. Who doesn't like to save money and still have style?
I do not have any children however I like reading these articles. I do have a cat so I have to think in terms of what he will or might do to anything I bring into my apartment. I do not see how most of the items that are being used are affordable. So yes it would nice to see and read more articles like this however the prices in this article in my mind are high.
I love things like this. There's no way I would be able to spend over 11K on that stuff so to find sources a little closer to my tiny budget is a great thing. Thanks!
Great post! Would love to see more like this.
The Suzani headboard makes me swoon. If you have to ask, you can't afford it... sigh.
Please sir, may I have some more?
Lots of cute choices here, but some of those items over $2k - for children? lol Hell Naw!
I would love to see an inspiration room photo and then the budget options to make it happen. =)
FYI: it is Layla Grayce with a y in the second name.
I'm sorry. I love High/low rooms as much as anyone ... But putting an $8500 persion rug in the high is a choice that pumps up the cost artificially (of course there's a cheaper rug option!). And the elephant alternatives are in no way parallel to the 'high' elephant. This post is a fail, as far as I'm concerned!
I decided to do a little research & see how low I could go in designing one of these boards.
http://olioboard.com/boards/170540-a-beautifully-patterned-big-kid-s-bedroom
$400 + the cost of paint & stencil. The stenciled wall on the left is DIY by http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/, the stenciled wall on the right is a stencil sold on Etsy.com for $40.
I don't understand using the suzani headboard as an option for the bed - I thought the exercise was to select similar looking elements in different price points. The suzani headboard looks nothing like the others.
Also, neither high nor low includes a pendant light.
I like the concept of the post.
YES, YES ... please MORE of these kind of posts!!!!! Love it!!
Love this concept, but agree with other comments: Go lower in price (lowest price should be easily affordable), be rational (WHO would put an $18,000 rug in a kid's room?), include all elements, post end result boards next to each other for easy comparision.
Thanks for posting about the DWR elephant. Since it is plastic, I don't know about the price tag but it is adorable.
Amazing post! naysayers and nitpickers be damned - putting the highest of the high-end stuff is useful to show what is out there, as inspiration and a starting point when looking in a normal budget. Not to "pump up the cost artificially". Can't please some people! The cohesion of all the elements and sourcing alone is fantastic, bravo!
@urbansouthtuna, I'd like to nominate you to to do a series of posts like this with budget alternatives - your board looks great and the price tag certainly fits in better with my perspective on affordable!
It's $8K, not $18K...isn't that what the board says? That's a $10K difference...still out of my budget, but that's a huge difference in price!
Oh dang, now I see it...yikes!!
I love these kinds of posts, but I agree about lowering the lowest price! Someone several comments earlier said "LOL at $18K rug"...unfortunately, for me, it's still kind of LOL to spend $500 on any one thing!
