Ever wondered how to get your tomatoes to grow into trees? Ben Gould brings us our second One MInute Tip, this time in the garden!
• The Star: Ben Gould happened upon his passion for gardening when trying to find the most inexpensive way to travel the world through the WWOOF program in Belize and India. It has since transformed his life in beautiful and unexpected ways. He now educates children on gardening at several elementary schools in Los Angeles, has recently started his own edible garden installation business and continues to seek knowledge and learn life lessons through all of the gifts that the garden offers. He is also one of my favorite Instagrammers around.

I'm just about to plant my tomatoes out and they were looking a bit lanky. Thanks for the great tip!
WWOOFing in Mexico changed my life for the better and greener as well,

I always love the gardening tips, but could you please post more on container gardening? I think a lot of A.P. readers have small apartments with no balconies like myself. I've only been able to grow herbs.
Looooove it!
Nice! I like how you were planting near the lavender, I have always done this with much success. It is my belief that by planting the tomatoes near the lavender there will always be more bees to pollinate there flowers.
You can rip off more leaves the 1/2 way up. That guideline is arbitrary. I just went to a tomato lecture by the guy from Tomatomania. He knows some growers who only leave 10% of the plant above ground. He leaves more like 20%.
BTW where is the "tree" in all this?
I plant my tomatoes quite a bit deeper than that, just leaving the top-most portion of leaves out of the soil. I find that this also help prevent damage in the wind. On the other hand, I start my own seeds and don't let them get that lanky either.
Love the new series!
That is an excellent tip which we used when planting our tomato plants. Our tomato is now over 5 feet tall. It works!
Yes where is the "tree" part?
Totally misleading title! I was so excited for a tomato tree!
Great video, great tip, and he seems like a great guy. Thanks AT!
Rats. I was hoping for some sneaky insight in how to grow a tomato indoors for long enough that it starts to look like the one at Epcot's Land Pavilion.
