Five Tips for Better Working at Home: Set Work/Home Boundaries
1. Finish Home Work on the Weekends
Unfinished "home work" in your house will distract you from the tasks at hand. As much as possible, make it a priority to separate your home tasks from your work tasks - and finish the home tasks before you start your work week so you give yourself the gift of a clean slate and a clear mind.
2. Set a Working Schedule
Having a regular rhythm can help you to be more productive in your home office. Discipline yourself to set a schedule, and then stick to it!
3. Organize Meal Times
Don't let crumbs clog up your keyboard! Remember to eat lunch. Take a break from your computer. Organize the way you think about meals so they segment your day in a helpful way rather than muddle it.
4. Organize When You Break Your Rules
Let the structure of home/work boundaries free you to be productive, not enslave you to a series of impossible expectations. True discipline creates freedom. Plan some things into your routine that feel like freedom within structure and that still respect the rigor you need to succeed.
5. Do Things You Couldn't Do in a Real Office
Things like... pull ups. Working in your pajamas once in a while. Pair habits with habits so you're working towards all your goals at once and truly taking advantage of being able to work from home. The more you feel lucky to be able to work from home, the more motivated you will be to organize the structure and discipline you need to be successful!
