Today's One Minute Tip comes from Justin Klosky, with a reminder to keep the peaceful sanctuary that is your home just that: home, by organizing how much of the news of the rest of the world you want to allow in -- and when you consume it.
"Keeping your home feeling alive, creative and clutter free takes discipline. Just like you would read your news in a set location (preferably not next to your sleeping partner) you want to set areas in your home for almost any task. Keeping these areas free of other items will allow you to focus on your intentions rather than all of the other distractions. A simple example is your kitchen table...a lot of households use their table as a collection area for mail, daily work, to-do items, only to find when it is time to eat everything gets piled together and pushed out of the way. When dinner is over you are left with a pile of "stuff" to go through and before you know it those piles become hills! Designate areas in your home for specific tasks and discipline yourself to keep those areas free and clear of anything else, and you will find your home more and more peaceful, and your self living more and more the way you set out to." - Justin

My husband reads the news in bed next to me all the time and I love it. Part of why I married him is he is a smart guy who is concerned with what is happening in the world.
That is great then! What is important is that you are on the same page together. All about communication!
Do you really need an instructional video for this?
@alphabear I think people need reminding of things they sometimes forget or take for granted. Different people have different ways of doing things. It was nice to be given the opportunity to remind people that simple structure can go a long way.
@alphabear, my thoughts exactly.
I so agree with you Justin. My husband starts checking his phone in bed the minute he wakes up, and he wakes up before 5AM...Annoying.
@mel_in_japan everyone has different ways of doing things which is why I stress how important it is to organize your news into your life in a way that is appropriate to yourself and anyone else it may effect. It can be frustrating to be on the other side of the laptop or tablet with that light beaming on you at 5am! :)
This video isn't so much about instruction, because let's be real how much instruction can you get in one minute, but giving people the reminder to think about how their daily habits can effect others.Remember Organize & Create Discipline!
@JustinKloskyOCD Thanks for the post man, and the fact that you took the time to answer every questions is rather gentlemanly.
It is nice to consciously fill in the time to read the news after waking up and 'adjusting' to the day before bombarding the mind with so much info early on. I second the idea.
So true. Life can be so simple. Thank you for this great tip. Nice smile too. :)
I was just about to post the flip comment, "I have no idea what he was saying, Justin's easy on the eyes." And then I happened to see that Justin posts on this thread, so I thought better of it.
Thanks @bejeweled and @Kitchi. At the end of the day it is just what I practice and what I believe. Everyone has different things that work for them and we all function in our own unique ways, but the most important thing I like to consider is making sure we all take the time to acknowledge our behaviors and habits enough to opening up to changing them. I always love when someone suggests something that can be habit altering for me. That is powerful and comes only come with an open mind.
Yes! So true.
Thanks for this - I recently got my first smart phone, and I didn't even notice that I was picking it up first thing in the morning to check in, etc. It's a bad habit for me and one that I didn't even realize I was doing..... I don't want to be addicted to my phone!
If Justin were my "partner", he could read whatever he wanted in bed. ...and eat crackers.
@Gina S it is crazy how our technology is taking over us, instead of us being in control.
@Sprklberie, thank you, but I would go CRAZY if there was any food in bed :)
This is a wonderful reminder about how much in control of our emotions/attitudes toward our life we truly are. I do this all the time and I didn't even realize how it was affecting me. After reading about wars/accidents/controversial topics, I find myself struggling to look forward to my day. I've also done it at night before bed, and it makes it harder to get to sleep. ( no duh!) I'm starting tomorrow. The phone stays in the charger on my landing strip by the door and I don't check it until I'm out of bed and dressed. Thanks Justin! I love AT!
@AVeMi glad this brought some clarity for you!
