In my weekly profiles of various Sleeper Sofa models, the One Night Stand sofa from Blu Dot is repeatedly listed in the comments as a favorite of readers. The design is simple, modern and the transition process is easy and intuitive — and it flips!
One Night Stand is Blu Dot's first sleeper sofa and was launched at ICFF in 2008 — see Janel's post, ICFF 2008: One Night Stand - New Sleeper from Blu Dot.
As I mentioned above, the transition process couldn't be much easier. After removing the two throw pillows and two back cushions (held snuggly in place with wooden panels), the sofa opens like a clamshell. Form follows function here — the back and arm rests of the sofa become the support for the queen-sized sleeping surface.
Both the sofa and mattress are comprised of a high-density foam that is comfortable in both instances, for both purposes.
Unlike some of the bulkier models that offer quick-and-easy transitioning from sofa to bed (Ligne Roset's Mostra and DWR's Soto), One Night Stand retains a sleek profile and a much lower price.
Upholstered in a wool blend that resembles felt, One Night Stand is available in grey or rust. It should be noted that the rust is not as intensely red as the photos suggest!
In New York, you can see the One Night Stand at the SoHo Flagship store.

I just got this!! Love it sooo much. Although some might not appreciate the extremely firm foam, I find that it's good for my back.
love it love it -- but does it stay in such cleanlined shape over time? anyone know?
I've had this since July (12 weeks backorderd!), and it makes me very, very happy. It IS very firm, and one thing it has caused me to do is not to sink into the couch when I sit on it. So instead of my butt being on the end of the cushion and just stretching back, collapsing, the firmness of these cushions require me to sit in a healthier manner.
None of this is to say that this is an uncomfortable couch (it's fantastic for afternoon naps!), but I did have to learn to sit better, with my backside all the way at the back of the cushion so that my back is well-supported. Sitting thus with my legs crossed and a martini in the hand of my arm stretched along the back of this couch, and I'm quite the elegant One Night Stand owner!
I love this couch. And I feel it would be impossible to find a better couch for anywhere near its price.
I love this sofa but i wish it was in a better fabric - i find it rather itchy.
I HEART this sofa!!!! And I'm saving up for it - only $1,481 to go!
I really love this sofa! Would anyone recommend using this sleeper as a normal daily use bed? I'm considering saving up for one to use in my small 10'x10' bed room/office/entertainment/music room so it isn't always eaten by a bed (especially when I have friends over). Are there better sleeper sofa options out there for that purpose?
I wish this sofa bed was available in the UK. It's the only one that will fit into my small flat and still look stylish!
Can anyone explain how to fit sheets on this bed. It looks like one side has no where to tuck them in.
we own this sleeper (bought 2nd hand off craigslist). here's what I will say about it. looks great. wool fabric has slight pilling but lines are still smart. we used it for 9 month guest and she loved it, very comfortable to sleep on. I have not slept on it but noticed lying down on it that you can feel the seam.
finally and most importantly we bought a foam mattress topper to go with it which is how we attach the sheets and overcome the hardness of the couch. without the topper there is no place for sheets to be tucked as one commenter asked about
also one more note from owner of the sofa: it's very very hard, which is why it looks so good and sharp and clean but definitely not a soft and cushy couch
