One Year of Chickens

TreeHugger

We're always daydreaming about our future chickens. (Maybe the way some people daydream about future children?) We picture sweet little birds clucking in the backyard, and an endless supply of fresh eggs. But is it that simple? Of course not.

It's good to get a dose of reality sometimes. And that's what we got when we read Pablo Päster's post, My Year With Chickens: What You Should Know Before Getting Chickens, over at Treehugger.

Päster has been raising four hens for one year, and he's got a little knowledge to share with people who are thinking about raising their own flocks. As with anything, there are benefits and there are drawbacks. We know the benefits. We needed a lesson in the drawbacks.

Luckily Päster didn't completely scare us off chickens. But his post is a good read for anyone considering getting their own chickens. It's a quick read and we recommend it.
