"Onigiri" for those who may not be acquainted with the Japanese snack staple is rice formed into triangle or oval shapes, wrapped together with nori (seaweed). It's one of our favourite snacks, so we might have been bound to find an affinity for NKS Architect's Oita residence...
What's amazing about this cedar built home besides its unique shape is that it was designed not for some young modernist, but an elderly couple in a countryside village. Perhaps someone in Bakersfield will commission a US version shaped like a hoagie in similar spirit, but we don't think it would look quite as elegant.
More photos of this light filled tubular home here, here and at the NKS Architects site.
