I am in need of some professional interior design help!I live in NYC and am interesting in getting a few design solutions to my small space one bedroom apartment. Is there a resource online that could help me find someone reputable without being over-the-top expensive? Or is anyone here willing to recommend someone? Thanks apt-therapy readers!
Any good hardware stores in midtown?Or any good stores in general?
I'm an interior designer. I'd be happy to talk to you about your space. You can email me at addg1 at verizon dot netif you like.
glurf, there's a big hardware store on 8th Ave. and 38th St. on the west side of the street called Scheman & Grant.Hope that helps.
if Pixie and LindaMC are reading:Thanks so much for the recommendation for Washington Framers Workroom a month back. I got my art framed and it looks great (I did the do it yourself option). Every time I look at it it makes me happy.
Anyone know of a good, CHEAP lumber source in the area?
glurf, Garden Hardware is a great place to stop in but it's a bit out of the way. It's what most of the theaters use for the day-to-day hardware type needs, and is located at 10th Ave. between 47th and 48th, on the west side of the street. There's no Home Depot cadre of allegedly helpful employees -- it's usually just Bob and Roger in there, with a few helpers who are not always the best at giving hardware advice but are fine if you just need to reach something off a shelf. And the place certainly doesn't have that squeaky-clean feeling -- it looks like a dump! But if they don't have what you need, they will often get it for you the next day. And if you don't know what you need, Roger is pretty good at helping you figure it out.
J-fer Rose, I'm so glad Framers' Workroom worked out for you! It's one of the best unsung resources in DC, IMO.In addition to the DIY, which I always do, it's always worth checking out the frames they make themselves from leftover molding. These are huge bargains.
Re hardware stores in NYC: HomeFront, on 29th just east of 3rd, is huge, has a good selection of household and cleaning products incl Method and Mrs Meyers, and is open 24 hrs.
a 24 hour hardware store!?!? i think i just salivated a little.
Got a tip, home tour, or other story our readers should see?
