Good closet space is key to living well in any size home. But just because it's behind closed doors doesn't mean you should let your closet become a mess. Maintain your sanity and maximize your storage space by keeping your closet the same as any other room in the house — neat, beautiful and organized.
Whether it's bedroom closets, coat closets, linen closets and anything in between, we've rounded up 10 great examples tidy storage spaces. After looking through the images you'll see there are few common tricks for making your closet tidy and useful:
1. Awkward & High Spaces: Make the most of unusual forms by strategically locating items that best fit the space. Install shelves as high as you can go, and then locate shorter items such as shoes, bins and laundry hampers on short walls and under low hanging clothing. Take advantage of narrow spaces by utilizing pull out drawers and hooks. Lastly, don't forget to keep a step-stool or ladder near by for those hard to reach items.
2. Built-in: Yes, it's more expensive then a simple rod and shelf, but a built-in closet system is well worth it, especially when you're short on space. Nicole of Making It Lovely has one of my favorite closets: she used IKEA's Pax system, sketched out the design to make sure there is a place for everything, and while she's using every last inch her closet doesn't look cluttered.
3. Put a Bin On It: Bins can go a long way to keeping your goods corralled. Use them to separate toiletries, assign one to each family member, or put them up high for out of season or seldom used items.
4. Use the Doors: Don't forget about your bonus storage surface — the door! Hooks, bars and shelves can all be installed to keep narrow items organized.
5. Roll It Up: Whether it's towels or t-shirts, rolling rather than folding seems saves a significant amount of space. Because you can avoid having to pull from the bottom or middle, it actually keeps piles from getting disheveled and helps prevent wrinkles.

Howard Butcher Bloc...
The first image is one of my all time AT favorites. I'm always like a deer caught in headlights when it is posted.
I'd slaughter puppies to have that type of vertical closet space.
Some of these closets look like 'magazine' closets. They have some great ideas, but I'd be surprised to find them in a real home.
on a sidenote, picture #6's idea of framing shopping bags from high-end stores for decoration is pretty brilliant, particularly for 'closet decor' (not sure how many people have closet decor, but if you have an open-ish closet, why not!)
i may have to copy that idea...
Aaaaaaahhhhhh! Sorry, I think I just had an orgasm.
Tons of bins = tons of unused crap! I've tried using storage boxes/bins in all sizes and all they do is collect junk that could otherwise be tossed or donated. :(
Thank you for including my closet (#4). I've been thinking about taking it up a notch lately, and maybe painting the bare wood. You've rounded up some great inspiration photos!
OMG -- where can I get those stands in the shelves holding sheets and towels in #9 (second last pic)???? Desperately need them for my kitchen cabinets. Who designs a kitchen without DRAWERS?
@Yellow Coffee Cup--they look similar to this:

You can probably find them at organization stores, kitchen stores, or Home Depot.
There are few things that I love more than a painted closet interior! (last picture)
The whole idea is when you are organizing yourself is that you also have to change your behavior. The truth is that you can't just buy pretty containers and dump all your possessions and now you are organized to get unorganized takes years and therefore it will take time to get organized as well. Start out little by little, have a plan and stick to it.
Wait...I clicked on "small spaces" and found a picture of a closet that's bigger than my bedroom. I'M CONFUSED.
Thanks Kristor -- live in Asia and lucky to have an Ace Hardware an hour's drive away -- but I've bookmarked the page until I can do some online shopping!
Even though build in closets is a bit more expensive, They looks Great! and with the right choice of timber can be both a visual and aromatic pleasure.
Nothing is more annoying than lazy postings. The #2 pic -"love with a proper stranger" just goes to a page number. Just a couple of seconds of clicking to get the permalink to the actual picture would allow us to go directly to the picture instead of page 83 at the moment (on a slow site). This is worse than people who don't know the difference between, their, there and they're. Could you at least post the date the picture is from to narrow it down?
The thing I love about posts regarding super organized spaces is that I get the inspiration to tidy up a bit.... and every little helps;)
Love pictures 7 & 9, and feel rather envious. There isn't a bad closet in there actually.
I'm now wondering why I derive so much pleasure from the storage systems of others?
I love photo/closet #5 *blissful sigh* ;) I have draperies for my closet now and even though they are there because my landlord would not put up a closet door :P I now love the look and love the beautiful folds of golden fabric when I climb into bed each night ;)
Anyone know where the white, wood cubbies/shelves on the door in pic #8 came from or know where I can find something similar?
The first pic might be nice but I can't help thinking "open-air closet = NO closet"... Simply too much dust.
@eeka -- if you're talking about #1, that image is showing their entire apartment (it's been shown elsewhere). That wall is where they store *everything*. There is no other storage (other than three or four chairs hanging up high on the wall to the left, if I'm remembering the other feature correctly).
#3 has 10 pairs of identical stunt shoes hehe
but the framed shopping bags in #6 are super cute, and cheap (ahem, besides the contents at purchase) decor.
