Organization Tip: Live in an All-White Home?

Organization Tip: Live in an All-White Home?

If this tip seems counter-intuitive to you, you're not alone. Yet the six members of the Eklund family, featured in Ikea's online magazine LIVE, say that not only is their all-white home easy to keep clean and tidy (not to mention undeniably beautiful and comfortable), it also cuts way down on the time it takes to hunt for hats, books, toys and all the ephemera that comes with busy family life.

Mind you, not every family member is totally enamored of the all-white aesthetic. Eleven-year-old Nils admits that "Life is easier in a tidy house" but also exclaims "Our home is so WHITE!!!!!!!! I like white, but it would be nice to see some blue or yellow."

Much as we're inclined to be sympathetic with Nils's sentiments, we can't fault mom-of-four Paula's reasoning:

"People think I'm chicken for only using white but I came to this through a process. The more white I added, the calmer I felt. I pick furniture that's designed to rescue life's mistakes, everything is washable. And I'm neat. Time is a luxury with four kids, why waste it searching for things?"

Do Paula's words have you intrigued? Would you consider experimenting with a paler – or even radical all-white – palette in the quest for sanity and better organization?
