Organizing arts and craft areas can be a bit challenging. Supplies come in all different shapes and sizes, as liquid or solid, and are fragile or bulky. That said, you can find very useful storage solutions if you think outside of the box. Featured here are some clever storage solutions made from unconventional items.
Even better, many of these creative organizing solutions are eco-friendly, made of salvaged or repurposed materials.
Shown above from left to right:
1. A hanging canvas shoe organizer doubles as window treatment and craft supply storage!
2. A salvaged railing (from a discarded crib, porch railing, fencing etc.) serves as the framework for hanging mini shelving, hooks, rods and baskets. (Get the how-to instructions from Elizabeth from Crafty Nest.)
3. A repurposed towel bar installed at eye-level keeps supplies in arm's reach. Shelving doesn't work this low because it would be within head-bopping range.
4. A coffee or bar cart makes an excellent paper station and can be rolled out of sight when you need more floor space.
5. A salvaged plank repurposed into a shelf holds vintage tins for brushes and paints.

Love the salvaged items and the pretty tins. Thanks for the ideas.
More posts like this, please! I'll be organizing my art/sewing studio soon and I'm looking for creative storage ideas. Right now I have a stack of large paper, notepads, and drawings leaning against one wall. I'd like to get it off the floor and a little more organized. Any suggestions?
The crib railing is brilliant.
Another great idea for kitchens is taking magnetic knife racks (you can get cheap 18" and 24" versions on Amazon) and putting rows of them on the wall in a tall column. Then snap metal tins full of stuff too them - for example all your teas, cocoas, etc. You can also transfer all your spices from glass jars to cheap metal tins of all shapes and sizes, some can even have see-through tops.
The shoe holder is great for cleaning supplies too. I have one hanging on the back of my basement door filled with the various bottles that used to live under my kitchen sink. Spray bleach, fantastik, oven top cleaner, granite countertop cleaner, windex, stainless steel wipes, extra sponges, dish soap, rug cleaner, CLR, nature's miracle, etc. Also if I had kids this is great because I can lock the basement door, instead of needing to use those ugly plastic cabinet locks that I ripped off when I moved in :D
So much space under my sink now!
That is a damn good idea. I might be stealing that.
agree the crib railing is terrific
I'm a jewelry maker and I store all my beads and findings in Ikea Grundtal magnetic spice jars stuck to magnetic strips above my desk. I love being able to see everything, and clean-up is fast and easy!
what are the white (ceramic?) hanging cups? Who makes them?
