Inspiration is everywhere. As we were cracking eggs for Sunday omelets this past weekend, dropping empty shells back into the styrofoam case they came in, we realized what a spectatular marvel of engineering the egg crate is. It's the perfect design for keeping office knicknacks — like paper clips, rubber bands and push pins — together and apart at the same time, all within easy reach.

You can get the job done (and make creative re-use of "trash"), by repurposing a cardboard or styrofoam egg crate from the supermarket. Or, for a little style extra credit, try on one of these retail versions molded from more grown-up, permanent materials:
