During this winter break season of reruns, there is lots more channel surfing than usual and thus the likely-hood of catching an infomercial for the latest gadget or home improvement tool is increased.
I wonder how popular these items are and if any of you, our readers, have ever bought them and found them useful?

White Enamel Flatwa...
Please - don't let my mother know about this thing. She will buy me one.
The easy crown molding thing is interesting, but if you can cut it with scissors, it can't be strong. And while I don't have any direct experiences putting in molding, it can't be that hard. I'd rather spend $50 bucks on something that I know will last and work than $110 on something that may fall apart.
I had the cascading hanger thing once. I didn't find it as useful as the advertisements suggest. The width the clothes take up is still there, just lower than the hang rod. So I had empty hang rod space, but not more actual closet space. It might depend on how you use your closet space though. I don't organize my clothes by 'short' or 'long' but by color, and I utilize the space above and below my clothes for other things like shoes and storage totes and laundry baskets.
I don't have the hanging space bag thing but I do have many space bags. I have some 'large' and 'jumbo' bags. I wouldn't recommend the jumbo--they hold far more than just one blanket. So much that they are rather heavy to carry. I also have some 'knock-off' brand space bags and there is a difference. Some don't hold their suction as well as the real thing. I do really wish I'd gotten the storage 'cubes' instead. The flat bags don't shrink down to a nice size shape like the commercials show. They are lumpy, conforming to every bulge and fold in the clothes inside. So, somewhat awkward. But they are fantastic space savers, and also great for moving (why put clothes in boxes or wardrobes when you can put them in a space bag? the bags become rigid when properly compressed, making them very easy to carry, and they protect the clothes just as well if not better than a cardboard box would).
To add an additional thought to my comments about the space bags:
I'm not really sure what the HANGING version would accomplish, unless hanging space is the only place you have to store something. The bags really compress the clothing inside. They are going to get wrinkled. So maintaining them as hanging wouldn't really accomplish much. Even if all you had was vertical space for storage, when properly compressed, the bags are quite rigid and could be stood on end. I keep mine propped on end at the back of my closet. So long as there is something to keep them from tipping over, they remain upright.
I've bought and returned (to BB&B) about 20 SpaceBags in the last few years because no matter how hard I try to love them, they just keep letting me down. They just don't stay compressed and tear easily. Maybe I got some duds? I don't know, but I will never buy another one again.
I've had the same issue with space bags, Monica.
me too! I WAS using space bags to store my fabric in my studio and they kept expanding back over time. Like 1 of 3 actually stays compressed. My mother gave them to me for free otherwise I would not have used it.
I've bought Wonder Hangers (another kind of the Cascade hangers) and I LOVE them! I'd recommend them to anyone :)
I can't wait to here was ATers have to say about this...
I must admit that my Wonder Hangers are pretty handy, but I am completely confused by the Easy Crown Molding... How is there no measuring if you want it to fit right? and why is it soooooo expensive. Molding is not that tricky and should not be that pricey.
I've tried Space bags several times and they always leak. You can get better results with heavy trash bags, a vacuum and a twist tie.
The major pain of crown molding is getting the angle right. Although it may work well in an apartment if it comes off easily. Same with the door molding.
If you have so much crap and so little space that you need to hang it off the sides of your bed - you may want to rethink your life.
The crown molding is $109 for 134 feet. That is cheaper than wood and it doesn't require a saw. It may not be too bad other than trying to cut it right.
re: the crown molding. There is a LOT of crown molding out there now that is just Styrofoam. You can cut it with scissors, but its not going to look very good. I suspect this is the same stuff. Don't know about hanging it with double stick tape though. Seems like you should use a stronger adhesive.
Not sure about these hangers but I bought some of those flat hangers and they rock! Your shirts don't fall off b/c they "stick" to the velvet AND they take up WAY less space.
Bet that peel n stick molding looks soooooooo cheap! ewwie!
ps. those bed things would ONLY be good in a kids room, for books, teddy bears, etc. but, I think they'd be gross filled up with shoes in a bed AND then covered with a God awful dust ruffle. double eww! Take half your crap to the goodwill if you are that desperate for storage!
too much junk.
every time these ads air i hear an invitation to fit more crap in the same space. divest, people.
If only people lived with less...This kind of crap isn't made to last it looks cheap and will only end up in a land-fill because it's useless garbage!!!!!!!! It also promotes hording... piew!!!
just looking at that bed with all of those shoes makes me anxious
Space Bags will ruin your down and feather pillows/comfortors as the compression breaks the quills.
I had space bags when I was doing a lot of long-term overseas travel and had to compress a lot of stuff into a suitcase.
They worked great for the first and second fill but then the plastic would just split, usually near the zipper. but sometimes along near the seams or the valve. The glue they used was fine but the plastic seemed somehow brittle. All 6 that I had failed within a year.
If they could be bothered to make them out of a better quality of plastic I would buy more.
I don't feel so bad now that I put my extra handbags and out-of-season clothes in suitcases under the bed. At least the suitcases serve multiple purposes. When I need one for a trip I just dump the contents into a laundry basket. It's not the most ideal solution, but it works for a home with little storage.
That organizing bedskirt is hideous!!! Looks like something a klepto would own. Just horrible!!!
All of these products are an attempt to spackle over decor or storage problems rather than fix them. I'd like think that AT readers are wise enough to know better.
What an ugly idea! Fine for kids I suppose, if you really have to, but as an adult... rather organise your closets better
