After recently merging two households into a much smaller apartment, it has been essential to maximize every square inch of space. And so as not to get overwhelmed with organizing every spot at once, we're taking our time and whipping up organizing solutions one drawer at a time.
We picked up these handy drawer dividers from The Container Store (running about 99 cents per container). Grouping like sized kitchen utensils together, we sorted and processed the jumbled area. The drawer dividers afford us easy access to items we need at a moments notice and create space to add a few more items if necessary. And don't forget to check out the other ways we've been organizing our tiny kitchen;

I like the expandable ones because they fit the drawer perfectly and then you don't have things hiding between the tray and the drawer like in the first pic.
I used to stress about this, till one day while separating all of my utensils like a well bred young man should, it dawned on me that it was a pointless endeavor. Now I just open the drawer and dump them in, and I have an extra 1.3 minutes for Keith Olbermann.
Extreme enjoyment at PP.
I also prefer the expandable, adjustable ones. They work so much better at maximising a drawer's space.
After making my own kinfe drawer... I decided to give up my search for the perfect utensil holder and make my own. I already have the plans, and will be making it, posting pics soon. In the meantime, here is how I made my own knife drawer organizer:

My utensil organizer will be along the same lines as the knife tray but inspired by this (what a good idea to make templates for the silverware and move them around to find the perfect arrangement!):

Ciao!
Although, perhaps instead you could use something made from a more sustainable material like the bamboo expandable drawer organizers.

@jacksonlalonde- I actually went the opposite direction. I never used to organize my utensils, and once I did I felt like I saved so much time by not digging around in drawers.
Any tips for someone who's silverware drawer is less than six inches across? Have yet to find a drawer divider meant for it.
@jacksonlalonde: you're not a bachelor by any chance, are ya? My question is this: don't you lose that time on the back end, poking around for what you want? (If not, by all means, let me know -- I don't mind running with the wolves if it's more convenient!)
