Orn Hansen is the newest clothing and small goods shop to arrive in Long Beach. Founders Rob Roda and Rodellee Bas had imagined a mens shop that would offer local American made brands. Soon enough they realized their shop could exemplify a specific niche and now offers women's clothing and small accessories.
Situated a few blocks from downtown, next to an incredible coffee shop (Lord Windsor Roasters) and a custom hat shop (Yellow 108)... this trio known as "The Corner" offer a bit of something for everyone. Orn Hansen serves up a mix of mens and women's clothing, jewelry, home goods, accessories, hats, purses and even stationary and paper products. Not only do they support local vendors of Long Beach and Los Angeles, but they also offer some great vintage finds as well.
The design of the shop itself, lends heavily to this specific aesthetic that is not only welcoming and cozy, but it's true to it's Americana roots. I loved the handwritten door logo, and the great window light that floods the shop. Next door, I peeked in on Lord Windsor Roasters (it's hard to avoid the wafting scent of fresh ground coffee) and fell in love with their decor. Rob told me how they have plans to eventually conjoin the two establishments and open some office/workspace in the back and offer pop up shops to local vendors.
Name/Title: Orn Hansen
Launch date: September 28, 2013
Inspiration for opening: For years now my girlfriend and I have talked about opening a General Goods Store. We love well made items and we love supporting American manufacturers. We would share the brands that we loved with people anyways so we thought, “let's open a shop and share with an even larger audience”. And of course, Rob loves talking to people about anything and everything he's into, usually over a beer or two.
Merchandise source: We source our merchandise from small American Makers and Manufacturers. We try to feature as many local California brands as possible as well as other great brands from around the country.
Best selling item: Our best selling items up to this point are Railcar Fine Goods Denim. In our opinion, Railcar Fine Goods produces some of the most well constructed denim in America. This denim is made to last and we are proud to have the honor of being a Railcar Fine Goods Stockist.
Your favorite item: Right now, I'm really loving my Norman Russell 5oz Chambray Tommy II shirt. I wear this bad boy at least 2 or 3 times a week. Great construction and great details! Kortney from Norman Russel has a great story and a real commitment to producing the best men's wear possible.
Favorite store (other than your own): Right now our favorite store is Lone Flag in San Diego. The owner, Sam Larson has created a great shop stocked with some of the best clothing and other goods he can find. Plus he's one of the best guys around. We are fortunate to call him a friend and a partner in this great American made movement!
