Some of these films - Inception, The King's Speech, True Grit - were nominated for Art Direction also, while others had less obvious (yet no less important) interior style.
Which was your favorite? Were there interiors from other films this last year that made an impression on you? Who do you think got snubbed in Art Direction this year?

Sprout Side Table
One of the guilty pleasures of life...watching a film for the background and not the actual movie itself! My friend Louis A. Lara is an industrial designer and his favorite film for contemporary sets is "The Fountainhead".
To be fair, I've only seen one of these so far. But the interiors in Inception were pretty spectacular, especially considering that, in the context of the film, they had to be fabricated by the Architect down to the slightest detail!
that was cool bodice, but he screwed up the carpet.
The interiors of the director's apartment in Black Swan could have used a dose of subtlety.
The entirety of Black Swan could have used a dose of subtlety.
Loved the interiors, tho.
I enjoy that four of the pictures are actually exteriors..
I haven't seen many of these movies, but I loved Mark Ruffalo's garden Julianne Moore was working on.
I was completely captivated by that peeling wall in King's Speech.
Oh my gosh, Kit... me too...
Me three!
Saw 7/10, go me! Decor-wise, I think my favorite was the King's Speech...I too couldn't get enough of that wall
Kings speech peeling wall all the way. It was SO EFFING BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
I can only really comment on The Kings Speech and Black Swan. Agree that the peeling walls were fabulous. But kept wondering about the crazy wallpaper. I know it was period but it was so...overpowering.
Also liked the Black Swan interiors. Obviously chose to eliminate the outdoors as much as possible in order to reinforce Natalie Portman's character. While it was realistic to have windowless spaces in a theater it really supported the "stuck in my own head" character.

cagutierrez- Good call! Info added. :)
Looooooved The King's Speech. Loved the peeling wall, vast room, giant fireplace, tiny elevator, Colin Firth...
I loved the kids are alright, everythign had a subtle charm to it, i especially loved mark ruffalo's organic restaurant, that image should have been included with these set options
I could move right into the house from "The Kids Are All Right."
Totally agree about the peeling wall in The King's Speech! It stole every scene it was in!
omg when i saw the kings speech, the physicians room. OMG
i just about died. that glass ceiling, the huge fireplace. omg wow just wow
I agree about the peeling wall! How can you get that effect?
I'll admit that I haven't seen most of these but I have to agree that the King's Speech was not only a fantastic but also had the most gorgeous interiors! I actually wrote a post about it on my own blog right before I saw this post ( http://luisadesignblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/visually-striking-period-dramas.html ). It was interesting to find out that the wall was actually like that before the filmmakers got there - they just reproduced it to cover the rest of the room!
The interiors in the King's Speech were stunning. I particulary enjoyed how the rugs were incorporated into them.
You have listed an incorrect name as the Production Designer of "Winter's Bone".
The correct designer is Mark White.
Thanks
