Are Swarovski Crystal Fridges & Leather Ovens For Real?

Are Swarovski Crystal Fridges & Leather Ovens For Real?

We've recently spied some luxury branded home appliances that look like the industrial designs from the imaginary workshop of Zsa Zsa Gabor alongside a revived Liberace. Who wants an all-leather adorned kitchen oven? Or a Swarovski crystal covered refrigerator? Apparently someone does...

We prefer simple stainless appliances for their timeless nature. This is the sort of quality that you should aim for when shopping for appliances, because large kitchen appliances are usually kept for a longer period than most any other home appliance.

CDA showed off a variety of differently decorated multifunction ovens, varying from leather-clad to uniquely etched designs. While CDA hasn't yet revealed which designs will make it into production, it's safe to say that an oven like this will clash with the rest of your appliances unless your name is Karl Lagerfeld. They look unique in a fashion magazine sense, but it would make more sense if they would offer a whole range of appliances in the same design. Now that could get expensive.

The Gorenje Crystallized Swarovski Elements refrigerator range share as similar fashion-first aesthetic. The fridges are covered with Swarovksi crystals....lots of them (we pity the person who had to place each one by one).

The range includes the NRK67358SB and the NRK26000SB. The one pictured above is 6½ feet tall and has over 26,000 anthracite Swarovski Elements in two vertical lines. For some reason, the overall look reminds us of the Monolith in 2001: Space Odyssey. Prices start at $2,600.

Unlike the leather daddy ovens, we think these iced out looking Gorenje fridges might actually look okay in a kitchen side by side with other stainless appliances. It wouldn't seem like a horribly odd mismatch, sort of like a tall woman in a sequined black party dress accompanied by a gent in a gray suit. However, expect to pay a lot of money to get these Swarovski-encrusted appliances into your kitchen and get ready for plenty of played out jokes about "bling" and questions about why you need your fridge to look more glamorous than the outfit you're wearing.
