- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love the ever changing look of my home! When I want to change my color scheme, I start with reupholstering my dining room chairs. Things snowball from there. I love antiques, but I also like the beach cottage look. I have tried very hard to incorporate both into my home. It has not been an easy feat, and it is an ongoing project. My style did not come from one trip to a furniture store. I enjoy the process and the evolution, as much as I enjoy the result.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- As most people who live in small spaces will tell you, the number one challenge is finding creative storage solutions. I have tried just about everything I can think of. I have bins stuffed under my beds and all my nooks and crannies are being utilized. I also found that in the laundry room, hanging things on the walls was a good way to store unused artwork. Another good solution was for me to simply declutter my home....it works wonders.

I like it.
I grew up with 4 kids, and 2 parents in a house that size. That was a real challenge.
Beautiful home! I really love the towels in the bathroom!
Oh, today has been a verrrry good day on Small Cool. This is scrumptiously delicious.
Hey there, just wondering how long it was between the time you submitted your home and when it was posted in the contest??? I submitted my place but suspect it didn't make the cut :-( Appreciate hearing back from you!
" I love antiques, but I also like the beach cottage look. I have tried very hard to incorporate both into my home. It has not been an easy feat, and it is an ongoing project. "
Oh I know what you mean! Trying to find a happy medium between the two styles is challenging and I think I'm throwing in the towel on the beach-cottage look. Anyway, lovely home and I love the dark stain wood furniture in a light home, very dreamy.
I love your living room especially! Such a lovely house!

I submitted my entry on April 2nd. I didn't expect to see my entry posted. I hope I can catch up on votes....
Eclectic modern, shows a sense for travel taste with warmth and design.
This is an inviting room that beckons to the rest of the home, come see me!
Nicely done in a small area without over decorating.
I like it very much.
Copper molds FTW!
@Otilly, I remember your entry from a previous year... it helped motivate me to enter my Arlington apartment this year. Thanks for the inspiration!
Plus I think your name is awesome as it reminds me of mine! I like unsual names.
@owlgirlo
So true, so true about the "positive" comments only. I don't mind if people say negative things. Lord knows I've had some of my own comments removed...
Love the double duty furnishings!
I like how different this is. It feels homey as opposed to overly put-together or modern... which is awesome. Nice job!!
I was hooked from the first photo. Very homey :)
Full disclosure: I am Otilia's husband. When we met, I lived in an apartment with a punching bag in the living room and a foosball table instead of a dining room table. We've come a long way since then. Otilia is always on the lookout for antiques at local thrift stores and on Craigslist. Sometimes I complain as I am carting one piece out to replace it with a new one. However, I must admit that I enjoy living in a place that I can be proud of when friends come to visit. She has a unique design style that I love. I wish you could see the rest of our home, but the contest limits the number of photos. Good luck to all of the contestants.
Nice work, I really liked the atmosphere, the sconces in the dinning room are quite lovely.
I love this place. Very cozy and homey, and similar to things that I would pick out for my own home. And as someone else said, copper molds!! This put a big smile on my face. I love the kitchen and all the little adorable details.
How charming, from the baskets piled high in the living room to the Hubby's honesty about his former bachelor pad. Its a perfect SMALL world. Nicely done Otilia....
That first photo is great!
Keep up the great design work but have your reformed-bachelor husband buy you a bigger canvas to work with. Imagine the artistic possibilities....
Nice use of space and color.
i love everything about this decor, this is sooo my style, how creative and unique!!!
beautiful home, great job!
I love the chair in the first photo! Where is it from?
MCR22....
Thanks for liking my chair. Actually, it is a vintage chair made by Heywood Wakefield. I had it reupholstered in white.
