I can't remember the exact day I discovered Etsy, but I can only imagine it was a dreary day with no light or sunshine, a day awash in mass manufactured mayhem—no knowledge, no understanding of the way commerce could be. But then a whole new world, a dazzling place I never knew (sing it, Jasmine) was revealed to me. Small, carefully curated vintage stores, handmade textile designers, independent woodworkers and artists—all creating and selling their original work online, in one place, directly to me.
But as is to be expected with any hugely popular online marketplace, it has its share of good and bad (hello Regretsy) and can be wildly overwhelming to navigate. Back in 2009 we published a guide to our favorite Etsy stores and asked you to share your favorites, and it elicited a whopping 200 comments! So we thought it was time for a new edition. We'll tweak our list of favorite Etsy stores, and in return you can tell us a few of your favorites!
Here are a few of our favorite Etsy stores for 2011:

• The Old Red Hen
• Trampoline by ethanollie

I've given up on Etsy. I've had such frustrating experiences dealing with the sellers!
I've had only amazing experiences dealing with the sellers. That is really unfortunate.
I've had sellers send me back money after realizing shipping was less than expected! This would never happen with a big company.
A couple favourites of the moment:
Gorgeous blown glass vases - really simple and classic.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/WestCoastGlass?page=1
Very simple porcelain with hand drawn details.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/villarrealceramics?ref=pr_shop_more

Being able to buy directly from artists makes me very happy. I'm so sorry @greenish has had bad experiences - I hope s/he left accurate feedback to help future potential customers.

I love little creature art! So unique and cool: http://www.etsy.com/shop/emmaklingbeil

The one etsy shop I order from regularly is Long Winter Farm. http://www.etsy.com/shop/longwinterfarm She makes her own lotions, chapsticks, soaps and perfumer oils that are fantastic! The combination of scents as well as the quality of products will keep me buying from her shop.

Jewelry:http://www.etsy.com/shop/locallibrary?ref=seller_info

Prints: http://www.etsy.com/shop/sassandperil?ref=seller_info
OK I probably have a hundred more favorites, so I will stop now.
Etsy is a great place for gifts! That being said, PLAN IN ADVANCE. Like, more than a month or two away from the gift giving.
That is my main complaint is slow service and no responses to emails/follow ups. But, I love it!
Tried Etsy one time and the seller (annmillerpaints) reneged on the sale because she didn't realize she priced her painting so low! And Etsy didn't make her complete the transaction!! Somehow we give more credibility because everything is "hand made" but I've never had this problem with ebay so I don't buy from Etsy.
Oh, and in case I get comments/questions about my bad Etsy transaction, I paid the Seller and she received payment before she decided to renege and refund my money. It's funny that my negative comment left for her that only detailed what transpired has since been removed.
I am an etsy seller as well, sorry greenish for your bad experience.
One of the shops I've purchased from to feed my new found crochet obsession is:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/madisonscraftnook
Oh, and a little self promotion never hurt! :)
http://www.etsy.com/shop/pattyleeper?ref=hdr
Greenish isn't the only one to have poor experiences. Once, I ordered a steampunk-style necklace for $60, and when it came, it looked like copper but weighed like aluminum (with a hideous hollow "stamped" back, so there were sharp edges on the back).
I've also gotten hair jewels that were literally buttons glue-gunned to a bobby pin. Not very impressive.
There's some really cool stuff, but also plenty of shoddy wares, and all the sellers price the same regardless of their quality.
I have an upcycled store on etsy.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/allyadeney
My other favourite is artist corid.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/corid?ref=seller_info
Now to go back and check out everyone else's.

I'm in love with the linen beach towels from

Another goodie - http://www.etsy.com/shop/ravenhaired
haha. I have an absolutely love affair with Etsy. I have so many favourites, I don't know where to begin.
But, I do know that it's not Ariel who sings A Whole New World (quoted above), but rather Jasmine.
@her infinite variety, you are completely right, and I am totally appalled that I got that wrong! I was thinking "A Whole New World" from Aladdin, but got confused for a moment with "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid. My 6-year-old self would disown me right now.
I'm an etsy seller too, and I can spend all day browsing through the wonderful shops! A few of my favorites are:

tippleandsnack.etsy.com
living vintage is so rewarding. thanks so much for including AMradio as one of your favorites!
There's an Etsy store that I think I read about here, but I've never been able to find (can't remember the name). The artist specializes in custom portraits (babies, pets, etc.) that look sort of like illustrations from a 1920s or 30s children's book. I buy a lot on Etsy, so I'm pretty comfortable with searching, and I've searched here, but I can't for the life of me find this seller. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please post the shop name.
zenblocks are fun!

Someone asked about custom duvets/pillows etc.
These are awesome:http://www.etsy.com/shop/modbeds
He also does duvets but I don't see any posted right now. They are custom designed from Herman Miller fabric. I know if you email him he has pics of some of his designs. He made some pillows and then a duvet for me last year.
For Jewelry, I like:

She shipped super fast and even threw in a free pair of matching earrings and a card for 10% off my next purchase. I get compliments all the time when I wear the necklace I bought from her.

I too am an etsy seller. There are many shops that I like, some because they are successful, others because they have precious items. It always amazes me what I find on Etsy.
This is my store

There are so many shops I love on Etsy, but the one coming to mind at the moment (perhaps because I just had lunch and am craving something sweet) is The Caramel Jar's Flor de Sel Caramels.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheCaramelJar
Best. Caramels. I've. EVER. Had. EVER. I'm talking melt-in-your-mouth, hope-this-moment-lasts-forever good.
pardon me. Fleur de Sel.

yes, i too LOVE etsy! i can literally spend hours browsing (and hearting) shops/items - so many interesting and unique stuff!! looking at my purchase history, i have 70+ :)) and most, if not all of them, were positive experiences!
here are my current favorites/recent purchases:
artandbookshop - vintage books - big, wonderful collection of titles!
dishpanhands - crocheted dish/washcloths - i know there's a bunch of options out there but i think these are the most affordable i've found, great quality and fast shipping too!
burntmill - bath products - lovely smelling soaps and i particularly love the fizzy bath bombs
and of course there's so much more!!

I absolutely love Etsy.. I had several things custom made for my wedding and it resulted in so many perfect and memorable pieces. Most sellers are a delight and over-deliver, in my experience.
Through ETSY I've discovered the world (and bought several things that delight me).
Recently I found a "OOAK" Sun sculpture for my kitchen and it brightens up the entire room not to mention my mood. Thanks again Natahobbi 13!!!
avecdieu for curtains (expect to wait ~a month though for her to sew & deliver)
matilou - french illustrator, bought some wonderful slightly on the dark side illustrations of children literature classics, fast delivery
uncommon - amazing what elegance you can create with a little plywood and paint
silverridgestudio - lovely ethereal watercolor originals or prints
Ditto that most sellers are a delight and over deliver. I've gotten free little gifts with my orders from many and its wonderful to have a personal connection with the person who is making your items. I often send a picture of how I've incorporated their work into my home.
one more....
plumprettysugar for the prettiest kimono sleeve cotton robes, I'd stay away from the boxers though, the cut she is using is not very contemporary and runs very large.
Little Dog Vintage! Awesome seller, great vintage housewares and accessories, ever changing selection

My favorite Etsy shop for upcycled home decor is by far CasaBean Design. They work with coffee roasteries and upcycle their coffeebean bags into pillows and floor cushions. They are GORGEOUS, very chic. Check them out at www.casabeandesign.etsy.com
I am an Etsy shopowner, but purchase as much as I sell. I think it's a great venue - amazing talent at my fingertips, whenever!
I am dishearteneded by the bad experiences some have had - I hope that those who have been neglected will try again.
From this list and the above comments, I have a lot of shopping to do! :O)

Don't forget, etsy is a great source of unique fine art.
My little shop with original paintings (mostly at an intimate scale) is at http://www.etsy.com/shop/azuredayart
I hate to pester, and I fear that because of all of these fantastic links, my request will be ignored, but I clicked on this link because it was in my RSS feeds, and the picture in the feed showed something awesome. I've since switched to a different feed, and lost the original feed because it was already read. The link opened in a new tab, and I stepped away from the computer for a second and almost immediately forgot the image that brought me here. It just so happens to be that the image at the top of this page is NOT the same image that brought me here.
This is confusing and it almost makes me want to cry. I just wanted to see who was selling the item that I can't remember what it looks like, and I can't do that because I have bad memory, AND the same picture isn't used at the top of the page.
Ok...now I'm crying. This sucks. WorstMondayEver.
I think that my shop of course might be the best. I do of course think that there are many others that are just as good. I Love ETSY
Mercantile Mill
I finally purchased the vintage style leather duffel bag that I have been lusting over for a while now from this really hip Etsy shop Rustic Leather Co
It is a knock out! The duffel bag matches my previously purchased leather messenger bag beautifully and now I have a Rustic Leather travel set.
The shop owner was very fast in shipping the items both times I ordered plus he was also very kind to answer my questions promptly.
Lastly they are currently offering a 30% discount coupon code! This is the code that I got off of their Facebook page: TW30311

I have one of their stone castles, the bear bookends, and my wife must have at least 50 of her yarns. She's all over the internet. http://lifesanexpedition.etsy.com
To me these designers all look like they do exactly the same work. What is it with design these days and all of these pictures of white people made out of geometric shapes?
I'm the owner of FarraDesigns where you'll find Coffee + Art (photography, sketches & artwork)
There are just sooo many people, creations and products... A few shops I Fav:
RodionCreative for photography
BoomBoomBabyBoutique for pin up style corsets
bridalblissdesigns for 50s inspired wedding dresses
These are great etsy sources!

I just bought a gorgeous hummingbird feeder from route4glass, get plants from ectlecticasia, and wonderful cards made from the photos of judystalus. I've been buying and selling on Etsy for several years and it's been a great experience.
I love Etsy and the community forums. I've made not a few friends there. As for favorites, I love oceanavenuesilks - handpainted silk scarves from California. They are reasonable in price, beautifully done & nicely packaged for immediate gift-giving. Service is fast, too. My own Etsy shop is http://etsy.com/shop/whitetidelinedesigns for high-end, lampwork bracelets (as shown on Martha's Vineyard) - not a home design shop, but a shop to wander and explore colors, textures & shapes all taken together like a watercolor in beads. Embrace, enjoy & explore! :)
I have been a shopper on Etsy for about 3 years, and I seller for 3 weeks. I love every aspect of this site; it's my go-to place to shop for gifts, receive creative inspiration, and communicate with other merchants.
My shop is called ReCurrents, and it can be found here: www.etsy.com/shop/recurrents
I sell jewelry that I've made from Atlantic shells and sea glass, all of which I collected from local beaches near my home in North Carolina. One of my main goals is to promote environmental responsibility and stewardship. I find at least one cigarette butt and/or piece of plastic litter on the beach for every shell I pick up.

My favorite shop is ArtbyClare. etsy.com/shop/artbyclare
She creates such cool etchings on recycled cabinet drawers and panels rescued from old doors. They make the coolest wall hangings, and they're made from something that has a history. Clare's into nature, so much of her work reflects that passion. I have a couple of her pieces and look forward to seeing more of her work at Harrisburg, PA's Kipona Festival over Labor Day weekend.
I buy from Etsy whenever possible. Thanks for the great list of favorite shops! I'm always looking for new and exciting shops. You left out the Plants and Edibles category though! It's always overlooked. Here are a few great shops in that category,my bakery included.
