Someone brought up the Out A Sight Shower curtain in yesterday's colorful shower curtain post. We had never heard of it before and could only find these dated images of how it works.
It's basically a shower curtain that can collapse and live in a long bar that folds up for the shower and down when you're not using it. So you don't have to deal with a shower curtain at all when it isn't useful (this could be great in small spaces). But considering we can't find any hi-res images, has anyone seen these in real life? In your home? In someone else's? Would you be into one if they were more readily available in the states?
Available through the UK dealer: Bathroom Marquee

Won't this get moldy?
Hmmm... interesting to see forward design from a throwback era. Interesting to think about why it wasn't a hit, and if something like it could make it today (with better materials).
exactly what i was thinking, pixie.
Me too Pixie!
you'd still have to let it dry first before hiding it.
...and keep your shower extra clean / tidy.
yeah - who wants to see all the shampoo bottles?
Hey Pixie--Apparently it doesn't get moldy, don't know how exactly but...
I think I'm with you guys, don't need to see what's in the shoer, need to hide it.
Hi, I purchased one of these at a home show in London a couple of week's ago. The designer was at the show, very nice guy, very straight forward and honest. The unit is very well made, good materials, fairly heavy but easily fitted. We have jusy had it installed and that was also easy. I will let you know if we have any problems but I have a feeling it will be a winner. We spoke to a Spanish lady at the home show and she had ordered a truck-load of these for her hotel and was very exicted about the concept. One word of warning the guy told me that there are a lot of Chinese copies going around and they are totally usless, breaking and going moldy within week's. Hope this helps, any questions please e mail me I will be glad to help if I can

Gary,
I've been looking into the out of sight shower curtain too. Who is the manufacturer of the one you have?
Anyone know how to obtain a user's email address? I'm trying to contact Gary (Stronghead) about his previous comment.
We've had one for a few years now and it's fab. I think it's only available in the UK. You can store the curtain wet so it makes a small bathroom look much bigger and neater. It just needs a clean with a mildew spray every few weeks to keep it looking clean. We bought ours online from The Bathroom Marquee, their site is at :
http://www.bathroommarquee.co.uk/outasight.htm
Used the curtain for 3 months before it started rusting and staining the curtain. 6 months on and the metal strut that screws into plastic ends loses it's threading so the curtain no longer sits horizontally but at a slant. 11 months on and the plastic holding the curtain pole breaks so no longer have a shower curtain! Love the concept of the curtain but the end product with all it's plastic bits lets the whole thing down, definitely the worst product I've ever bought.
I was able to find a couple of these shower screens, and couldn't be happier with them. They've been in use for a year now, and so far so good. Our bathrooms are not large, but they look much roomier with the Outasight screens neatly hidden behind the brushed nickel frame. I see them sold on ebay:
