In the dead of winter, any thoughts of hosting a party turn toward the great indoors. But that doesn't always have to be the case. Instead of hiding from the cold weather, snow and ice, why not embrace it? We came across this winter ice skating party over at The Sweetest Occasion and had an overwhelming desire to party crash!
If you've got the space, we think this would be a great idea especially for kids with winter birthdays who are used to having parties indoors. Check out The Sweetest Occasion for a lot more great photos.

Great idea! My son has a February birthday and I've been so sad thinking that he'll never have a fun, outdoor party. He's only turning 2 this year, but something like this would be great in the future.
Any ideas for an outdoor winter party for younger kids?
love this! we live in a really cold place and have atleast 6 months of winter, so the idea of hiding away for the half the year is not an option! for younger kids, we like building snow forts around the yard-- they can let their imagination run wild, it's different, loads of fun, and doesn't require a special skill (like skating) for littles. would make an awesome playdate or party!
I threw myself an ice skating birthday party last year in the middle of February. Everyone, kids and adults, had a great time--instead of cake and ice cream I set up a hot chocolate bar with three huge urns of hot cocoa, all kinds of marshmallows, sprinkles, and colored sugars for toppings, and lots of cookies, biscotti, pepperment sticks and other things to dip into the cocoa. I'm doing it again this year.
Wow, a hot chocolate bar! I'm tucking that one away for later!
I recently wrote up some ideas for a winter sledding party:

You could serve these cupcakes:

I just (as in yesterday) held a 'winter woodland' ice-skating birthday party for my daughter's third birthday. For a tiny fee we rented the outdoor ice at our local park and the adjoining community centre and invited friends, family and close neighbours. We followed the skate with pancakes (and a fun pancake topping buffet), sausages, hot chocolate and coffee. Everyone had a blast!
