We recently posted about an outdoor rug from West Elm that we thought was really cool, and were asked for more suggestions. Taking a look around the web led us to a few more of the best looking all-weather mats, perfect for summer activities to come...
Above the jump is the Floral Oriental Mat from Sweep Dreams. The store stocks several different sizes and colors, so it's definitely worth checking out.
For the zebra-print fans out there, this rug from Pottery Barn should do the trick. Available in sizes up to 9' x 12'. This has been a popular trend recently for indoor rugs, so why not outdoor, too?
This mat from VivaTerra is made from recycled plastic and is so pretty we might want to use it indoors, as well.
A lot of the products at Frontgate can be kind of stuffy, but we do like the Damask and Fern models of their outdoor rugs. Interestingly, the fern mat is made of propelyene, but the pattern is actually in high pile chenille. Doesn't sounds weather-proof to us, but apparently it is.

they are really nice to look at, but not so nice to walk on. maybe the one i bought was just too cheap (world market, recycled plastic from a few years ago), but if crunched like walking on, well, plastic bags, felt wierd under bare feet, slipped without a pad underneath it, and started shedding little plastic bits after being out in the sun for a summer or two. maybe i'm asking too much for an inexpensive outdoor rug, but i'd rather have an oilcloth or cotton dhurrie.
We've got a recycled plastic one on our porch that has held up well, if a little sun bleached. It sets a lovely tone as you enter the home and hides the chipping paint on the porch. When this one dies, I'll definitely replace it with another.
I'm a renter and we moved into an apartment with some nasty oil stains on the concrete patio. I think the previous renter kept his motorcycle out there or something. Last summer I bought a cheap cotton drop cloth from the hardware store, cut it to size, hemmed the edges and painted it a simple white. I couldn't be happier with it. I'm thinking of painting it again this summer, maybe some zebra stripes to spice it up a little.

I've been in the market for indoor/outdoor mats and came across the Terra Mats site: www.terramats.com. They have a good selection of colors and modern, geometric patterns. The prices are very reasonable.
I like the idea of using the mat in front of my kitchen sink.
