Honest question, NOT a political statement....this is not about 'policital correctness" (which I abhor) but about true respect..
Not a Brit here but in my country there are very specific guidelines for honouring the nation's flag... which symbolizes the nation. I try my best to abide by them out of respect for my country. . (Not always successfully, I might add, just so's ya know there's no judgement here.) I have a couple t-shirts which display our flag solely out of my personal patriotism but which -according to the declared/written guideines- are disrespectul.
Again, I'm not a Brit...but I can't IMAGINE sitting on something covered with a likeness of the Union Jack. Just seems disrespectul to me. I fully expect to get a ton of snarky replies. That's ok but I'd like to hear from some cititizens if any of you are reading here..
thanks,
In Britain I don't think we're that bothered about our flag, it's not like in the States where it is a symbol of patriotism. However, this year with the Queen's 60 th Jubilee (and later the Olympics) I have started to see quite a few Union Jacks about and I'm expecting to see a lot more around by the Summer and I would expect to see more on design blogs as well. Personally, I quite like other countries embracing our flag,
Yeah we really don't care about the flag. We're not a particularly patriotic bunch and when people are they tend to use their own flag: English, Scots, Welsh etc. I find our flag quite an unattractive thing myself and so wouldn't own furniture with it emblazoned on it but I think you'd struggle to find a British person who'd find it disrespectful.
