We came across this beautiful black and white bedroom while cruising through Flickr this weekend and simply put—fell in love. From the extra-long headboard to the chalkboard wall and giant tree, it's all a growing boy needs...
We love the long headboard that runs the length of the bed, not only providing padding against the wall's surface, but anchoring the bed visually in the room. Chalkboard walls are all the rage, but with the white shelving and the tree against it, the wall makes a great color statement plus creative place to play.

Shaw's Original Fir...
owen is a lucky guy. that room is amazing!
LOVE the bed and "side"board too! Also cool artwork.
Still not sold on the chalkboard paint IN a bedroom--- Or inside a house at all for that matter (I've mentioned this before...)
How DOES one deal with all that chalk dust??!!!!
i love owen and dylan's rooms! can you make one of those long upholstered headboards for lucia? also the david fusseneger blanket is so cool. love how you have taken ikea basics and made everything custom cool.
Gosh -- my son's room has the same black wall (not chalk board paint) and shelves! Lots of similarities!
where is that duvet cover from???? i love it for my son!
where can i find the poster? i tried to find it on gigposters.com without any luck.
thank you for your comments
the black wall is also magnetic. the tree, leaves, moon and stars are all magnets so we can move or change it as we like.
my son is a neat freak, chalk dust is not an issue for us, he uses a spray bottle with water and a rag to clean up.
the blanket is made by david fusseneger
the poster we got at the show. it's from the fall tour 2006, that might help your search.
I love the table/shelf unit he is playing at - great for storage and playing with Legos. Where did you get it?
This is awesome!!!
Amazing room! What a lucky little boy! I am very inspired now. :)
Everything is perfect! Although, I cringe every single time I see anything other than fabric hung above a bed. Cringe! I grew up on the San Andreas fault line and even though I was never lived in fear over it, I still think an earthquake could strike at any moment, as it often did.
the shelf unit is bolted with 4 inch lag bolts to the studs. i grew up a few miles from the northridge quake epicenter. i've been through a fair share of earthquakes.
oh and the contents, except for the stuffed monsterl are behind plexi glass doors
Where did you buy the storage bins? I love them. And is the storage from Ikea? Thanks!
the storage unit is one of ikea's lack pieces. i made the storage bins myself as ikea didn't have bins that fit it. they now make a similar expedit piece that does have coordinating bins.
wow great room! love the magnetic chalkboard wall idea and the colors. is the bed/guardrail also from ikea?
yes and no, the bed frame and guard rail are from ikea but i modified them a bit. i wanted the bed to be low to the ground (my son was only 19 month's old when we moved him) so i took the 12" legs off the bed frame and replaced them with 3" locking casters and bought 12" metal straps and screwed the guard rail directly into the inside of the bed frame. the hardware that came with the guard rail didn't fit on the frame, it's made for toddler size beds, we wanted something with a bit more longevity.
