The last time we featured Pahana Alo's setup, it featured a glass desk and two low monitors, that were optimally positioned for his workstation. This new update to the office includes a new desk and new computers in an effort to make the space as minimal as possible.
In an effort to make his setup more minimal, Pahana Alo got rid of his dual monitors and opted to get an iMac. His new setup eschews clutter in a drastic fashion, allowing the few objects that are in his office to be highlighted simply by their presence.
There is even an Ikeahack included in his setup. He used a IKEA Vika Amon table top that rests on aerated concrete blocks, for a sort of post-industrial look. The desk is complimented by a no name cantilever office chair, which works well in this setup.
The iMac is a 21.5", 2.7GHz with 8GB of RAM. The position is also unusual. Instead of using the stand on his desk, Pahana Alo recessed it so that the monitor fits flush with the surface of the desk. There is lots of storage in the form of IKEA Malm chests, which are sadly no longer available. He's also got a MacBook Pro 15" to take care of his mobile computing needs.

"Towards"???
There are plenty of grammatical errors in this one. Sidestepping that issue, the position of the iMac relative to both the windows and the lamp creates a lot of glare on the screen. If he's working in front of the computers for long hours, this is horrible for the eyes and can be a trigger for headaches and migraines.
not sure what the point of this piece is.
I don't think PATRICK (THE OTHER ONE) was making a grammatical point on "Towards". I think he was saying that it's not heading "towards" minimalist, it's already there.
8GB of ram?? really? I think my phone has 16GB.
love, love it!
@K1TSUN3
Your phone has 16GB of RAM?!?!?! What kind of phone is it? 8GB is pretty standard as it is the spec for the current gen IMAC
Modernguy wins!!
As far as inspiration, as I sit in my "home office" surrounded by post-its, swatches, cameras, cords, magazines... I beg to differ that this post has no point or purpose. I find it wholly aspirational.
Some people don't need their creativity spilling out all over cluttered desktops cutesy fabric- and ribbon covered cork pin-up boards.
In an effort to service their readership, apartment therapy should probably proof read their stories more carefully. When writing I always try to do so, in an effort not to be too repetitive.
I come from the world of mass communication and we had it drummed into us that there is no such word as towards. Since the original intent of journalistic writing is to keep things short and concise, and since toward has the same meaning, we were told to always use toward.
For online writing I would suggest to use the AP style (associated press). It has about the strictest rules of any of the writing styles. Just keep in mind if you adhere to it, you will have those who are in favor of the Oxford comma complaining about your writing style.
If i read one more damn comment on this site bitching about grammar and precise writing styles, it will be too soon.
K1TSUN3,
Your phone most likely has 16GB of Storage Space to which this iMac would have at least 500GB.
The OED has "toward" and "towards" used interchangeable since at least the 14th century. American linguistic prescriptivists may think only "toward" is correct, but 600+ years of actual English usage suggests otherwise.
I am not a huge fan of this setup but I do like the lamp. I would find it hard to drop down from dual monitors to a single 21" screen on the iMac. I would consider going from my dual 23" to the 27" iMac - maybe.
What speakers in the pics?
If you need something at hand you need it at the desk. Why make trips to the room where all the stuff is stashed just to achieve minimalism at the desk. Like the Buddha, very symbolic : Clutter ---> Minimalism -----> "Towards" Nirvana. @MODERNGUY ~ thank you.
FOR THE RECORD, I was NOT making a comment on anyone's grammar. As Modernguy stated, my comment was meant to reflect my amazement that this was considered to be on the WAY to minimalism! And very inspiring, if so!!
someone doesn't know the difference between RAM and Hard Drive Size. Lol.
