The darker, moodier cousin of turquoise, teal imparts to living rooms a sophisticated jewel box flair. Like snorkeling through underwater caves or hiking through thick jungle brush, the hue evokes a quiet calm with a hint of danger. These brooding hues go well with a variety of metal accents, wood tones, and natural materials, making them a great choice for a living space.

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!
The last one is fabulous. Has a good balance. The first one is too much.
Ha! Hoping my Room for Color entry gets picked b/c I think it illustrates this nicely ;)
Oh my goodness, BMoore's Dark Harbor is my new favorite color. Gorgeous.
Looove these. I see what Muesli means about lack of contrast in the first one, but I even love that (though I, too, prefer the last image—it reminds me of the room that made me want to paint a living room teal, which is a friend's peacock-blue living room with original warm wood detailing and white trim: an incredible combination). I'm going to go get eight million teal paint samples.
Teal is too much everything. Too dark, too heavy, too filling, too contrasting. Some people have succeeded in making it look okay but teal is not the best option. Yes, you can make it look good but it is never the best. I've been a guest in a teal room a few times, always exiting as soon as possible. I'd rather be in an energetic space than an energy drowning teal room. I feel tired just looking at the pictures.
GORGEOUS! Particulary love how dramatic the teal is in the last photo. I'm tempted to do this in my living room in various shades of green. I've sewn dramatic pooling curtains in deep Kelly green, now to expand the paint brush to the rest of the room. =)
I can kind of get behind #3 because it's sort of a "pastel" teal. Otherwise, it's such a difficult color, IMO. Seems too saturated no matter what the setting, and I'm normally a fan of saturated as long as the colors aren't shout-y. Sorry, I totally don't know color terminology, LOL! [Wouldn't mind a refresher course, AT!]
Teal does work well on ducks, though.
I had Sherwin-Williams Blue Peacock SW-0064 in my room before, amazing color!!!
Photo three. I want that.
Teal is a favorite color of mine. I don't find I hard to work with, as long as you avoid going muddy with your decor. As you can see in the photos, it is lifted not only by bright white, but by anything hinting of orange.
Ok, in the first pic, the mantel should NOT be painted teal. what the? yuck. It should be white or the stained wood or marble, something other than the color of the walls. Why did they do that? Otherwise, I love this color but do have a hard time with it in homes. I'd prefer navy, or to wear a dress this color, perhaps earrings..
How timely - I just finished painting my living a pretty teal about three weeks ago! It's such a great color.
I never color my room
I dislike the color teal (except on ducks or peacocks)... I agree with BenTrovato... Well said!
In my last home, I wanted to paint the formal dining room so that it would be at its best during a dinner lit by candles and the 100-year-old chandelier. I wanted a jewel-box effect when I opened the pocket doors from the living room -- wall that would be dark and receding, but that would still register as a rich deep color when dimly lit. Pulling teal from my mom's china (Minton's "Ancestral"), I went with Behr's "Mermaid Treasure," which turned out to be too tropical and not rich enough. In my current dining room, I chose Behr's "Tucson Teal" (practically the same as the "Caribe" shown) below the chair rail, with a silvery wallpaper above, and the color is just right -- as deep and thick and heritagey as a royal blue but not as cold or predictable.
I love these rooms!!! I have lots of teal accents, but I haven't painted any walls in this color yet. You've given me some great inspiration!
The absolute trendiness of teal has killed it for me. It's everywhere. When rooms in Reality TV shows are decorated in teal, you know you need to make another choice. It's going to date itself very quickly like mauve and peach did back when. I much prefer to see individual color choices that don't follow trends.

Its more green than blue, but it was the perfect compromise for my basement apt and my teal-loving eyes. It goes so perfectly with my teak furniture!
I love the color of teal and thank you for posting these beautiful rooms. But, I can't tell which colors actually go with what photos because you have two colors below each photo. So which color is actually in the photos?
Teal is so much Fun! I love number 5 because of the green that compliments it so well. I was inspired and found a rug similar to the one in the picture here: http://www.rugs-direct.com/ShopDetail/Details/157485/Dalyn/Terrace/TE08/Lime
It goes so well with my cream walls, but I found a teal paint at home depot. I might be bold and paint my room that way! Should I?
I am dying to find the paint color of that fifth photo. I've looked at house and home too and can't get it anywhere. Apartment therapy can you help?
