A dark, dramatic dining room sets the tone for entertaining or nestling in for a quiet dinner at home. Some purples (dark plum-like ones or dusty gray-ish ones) can be perfect for the dining room, whether it's filled with a loud and lively party or just two at the table.

I love the periwinkle of #3 and lilac of #4. I had a lilac bedroom though, and it was awful to try and light it; I like regular incandescents because of their warmth, but their yellow tint turned the lovely purple to a muddy yuck! Bluer lights didn't seem cozy enough for a bedroom, nor would I expect them to feel that great in a dining situation.
I have periwinkle as the trim on my cottagey-house, against a muted seafoam green. Outside, it does well in the natural light.
Love the red and purple together in #2!
