Q: I'd like to paint this bedroom and would appreciate ideas on color. Currently the walls are a golden yellow and a change would be good. I was thinking a pale shade of mint green. Let me know what you think. The quilt is a bright yellow with colorful patterns, as you can see. The room has dark furniture and, at the moment, pink carpet.

Green mint is good. Or blue Tiffany?
I've painted my bedroom in some variation of green for fifteen years now--anywhere on the spectrum from avocado to pea to leaf. I love the way the green looks in the morning sun, as well as by the light of a reading lamp in the evening, and it works well with my yellow quilt, which has some of the same colors as your cover. Go for the green! You won't be sorry!
How about a pale gray?
Light mint would work, as would something darker. We have silver sage from Restoration Hardware in our bedroom, which I love. I would probably look for a rug to put down on that carpet though.
I would pull out the green from the quilt & then lighten it to a pale shade. And put an area rug over that (shudder) pink carpet.
I agree, area rug, drapes, and maybe a mint green/sage green wall. At first I was thinking a deep rose accent wall, but I can't tell what shade your yellow walls are and I think it would clash. If you're going to do 80's Victorian, go all out, but if you only go halfway, it's going to look disorganized. Don't forget those 2D homemade stuffed cats and frilly valance.
I would paint the trim and baseboard white. Leave the yellow and see if you love it more against the white!
Green walls will only accentuate the pink of the carpet. It seems to me, based on the picture, that the pink is quite strong already.
Just some colour schemes I found that might give you some ideas:,

Good luck!
Green is a color that you can use a vibrant yet darker value and still have it feel bright. Rather than a light mint, I would go for some of the more saturated greens in your bedspread. Get some chips first though and make sure they blend ok with the woodwork. You'll probably want a green with some yellow in it - a slightly acid Spring green. Alas, this color might not work great with the pink carpet (or could possibly be super fun!), but it sounded from your "for now" comment that the rug will be changed probably? If not, a lightweight runner alongside the bed might help everything blend together.
Light minty greeny blue would look beautiful ... Once you have completely removed the pink carpet.
Also, consider moving the furniture around. The bed should be the focal point of the room and it's looking cramped. Can you get rid of one of the other pieces of furniture and build storage in the closet or under the bed? Don't put the bed under the window. Move it 90 degrees in either direction. Make a bigger upholstered headboard in a neutralish fabric to keep the whole light and airy color scheme from floating away.

The traditional color rule is 70%-20%-10%. With your rose carpet and yellow spread, adding a third major color would create a very unrestful room.
-The spread color can be either the 70% (what you have now, with dark yellow walls), or the 20% (carpet-colored walls.)
- The floor color can be part of either the 70% (pale or dark rose walls), or the 20% (what you have now.)
The wall color is always part of the 70%. If you want mint green walls, then you need to change either the carpet or spread - and changing the spread is a lot cheaper! Get a spread that contains a lot of green, then match its green to your wall paint. Select a green that harmonizes with your furniture. The current yellow does not flatter that shade of wood. Consider painting the wood-work your 20% color.
To me it seems that if you went with green on the walls, it would make the room feel too colorful and all over the place. What I would suggest is going with colder light gray. From the photo that you provided, it seems that the room with the existing colors on the bed coverings and the furniture pieces seems very warm, and I think it would benefit stylistically from a little bit of balance coming from a neutral, colder color.
My first thought is pick up that pink/geranium/poppy color in your bedspread.
With that blonde wood trim green is the only way to go. Since you want to stay on the lighter side, I think Sherwin Williams Acanthus (somewhat light green but with depth) would be a good choice.

Apologies...I did not notice the unfortunate carpeting....if you wanted to go with a preppy look for the room go with the green as pink and green are classic preppy colors if done correctly...you will however have to change the bedding. You can also go in the opposite direction with a dark brown and crisp white bedding.
green is opposite to red on the colour wheel, so the walls & floor both will seem brighter, if you wnat to highlight those. blues are opposite to orange, so the orange in the floor colour will seem brighter. consider a custom beige/taupe/ or greige.
The bedspread looks muddy against the light-colored walls and I'm thinking you should go with a darker color that would make bedspread pop if that's what you want. Why don't you go to one of the paint sites, such as Glidden or Behr, and upload your photo to the Visualizer (I don't know what it's actually called at the sites) and virtually paint the room with different colors so you can see what you like or not. Beats asking us because we don't have to live with it, you do.
As some others have said, a lightish gray colour would look gorgeous on the walls! Painting the trim white might also give the room a boost. And, if you're not committed to taking up the carpet, then definitely consider getting an area rug to cover most of the pink.
I agree with Luthien....
