The recent post on custom nursery bed linens got us thinking... what about customizing a duvet cover for a bigger kid? Spring always inspires us to take on a few DIY projects, and we are always looking for ways to involve kids in the design of their own spaces.
We found a few sources of inspiration for this project. First up, Better Homes and Gardens.
BHG's instructions are clear and easy to understand, and they don't overcomplicate things, always appreciated in DIY projects! They give a cost estimate of $100 for the supplies to hand paint the duvet pictured above.
HGTV also has DIY instructions for hand-stamping a duvet cover, using your own child's artwork, craft stamps and fabric paint. They suggest replicating your child's artwork on the duvet, painting it with sponge brushes, and then using craft stamps for contrast. HGTV also has instructions for a stenciled DIY duvet cover, if you are not comfortable freehanding.
Looks like fun to us! It is a great way to have a one-of-a-kind room, and lets kids have a little control over their environment. Who knows, it might even inspire them to make their beds!
Have you ever tried doing this?
