With Spring in the air many homeowners are turning their attention to their porches and front yards. Over the years we've talked about stylish house number options, but nothing gives your wallet a break like this DIY painted option from Martha Stewart!
Martha Stewart suggests this simple idea to paint your house numbers on a planter with the benefits of a little variation in your neighborhood and a way to keep costs down. This method allows you to choose not only the planter you'll be using, but the font or style of number you'll use to adorn your porch.
Before painting a planter of any sort, I suggest priming the area you'll be painting — or at a minimum, sealing things at the end of the job. I highly suggest using a paint intended for outdoor use (spray paint can be your friend) and making sure all edges are sealed when you add a final coat to prevent moisture from finding its way in! This solution is a simply way to make a big impact for less, giving you more money left over to spend on plants or other projects around the home.

I like the idea! I saw a picture once that was sort of similar, but I can't find it now. I have been thinking about painting our house numbers on the planter in front of our house. Just as soon as we rip the dead&dying bushes out...
Beautiful, creative idea. Just make sure the numbers stay visible for the fire department!

Not in a location where one would normally look for house numbers. Numbers, need to be large and easily visible in case you ever need an emergency vehicle.
I did this. My house was 100 feet off the street, and 6" stencils were visible from the street. (I used black paint.)
However, my favorite treatment is to stencil numbers on the riser of the first step to the porch. It's like the opposite of a transom.
Let's be clear here. This is not from Martha! It's from Martha Stewart Living Magazine. There's an entire team who thinks up these ideas and then sets them before Martha to receive her approval before the magazine goes to print. This is no more Martha's idea that it is mine!
Great idea! for outdoor and entryway, front porch, home, house numbers for all to see. Hope plants do not grow over hanging down over them though.
it'd be completely invisible at night...
