Of all the themed nurseries and bedrooms we've seen here on Ohdeedoh, this has got be the coolest. The parents here decided to go with Palm Springs as the inspiration.
The main feature, of course, is the large photo mural on the wall behind the crib. The vintage photo (of Richard Neutra's Kauffman House, I believe) sets the mood in the nursery - sunny, fun and sophisticated. The mid-century details throughout the nursery round out the effect. Shaw's Original Fir...
No, thanks, that's nothing for me. I think a nursery should be cozy and snuggly, not "sophisticated" in this special way. A sunny nusery could have a yellow painted wall, fun is added with toys. Thats it. In my eyes.
It's an...odd choice. But you know, baby isn't going to be staring at the walls. Mama and Daddy probably will be (at 3am), so if this is what makes them happy, go for it.
Also, I want that dog.
I think it's awesome! I don't think I'd have the guts to go so bold but I love the way it turned out. It's different and that's why I really like it. Gives the room an open and airy feeling.
I don't normally go for themey nurseries, but I love this one.
And I think parents should decorate the nursery however they want. There will be plenty of time for the kids to express themselves in their bedrooms, rather than guessing what a baby might like, when the truth is, baby couldn't care less.
not my style, but I think it's awesome! The life size photo would probably be pretty interesting for a baby to look at. And I love this nursery even more because I had a horse in exactly the same style as that wooden elephant when I was a kid, although mine rocked and we called him Doc. Awww, memories...
I do love that dog. And doesn't it cost a fortune to print a photo that large? I'd opt for something more kid friendly if it's gonna break the bank, and not do anything of the kid.
Women as the objects of decoration in a playground of the wealthy. Yeah, that screams 'nursery' to me. I really hope this is a joke of some kind otherwise I'm suspicious that even the dog has been chosen for her/his aesthetic appeal by the people who live in this fantasy world.
"At the time, Lauren didn’t know the sex of the baby. “She said, ‘If it’s a girl, she’s obviously going to like the fashion [in the photo mural]. If it’s a boy, he’ll like the nature and the pretty girls,’"
I LOLed.
Fun and interesting! And that dog is larger than the crib!!!
I personally think this nursery ROCKS! Love it!
I have this nursery bookmarked in my (pre-Pinterest) inspiration file. It's really different and unique - oh yeah, and FUN. Clearly it's not for everyone, but not everyone one loves buntings and embroidery hoops and tree decals either. I think I would like the people who live here.

Sexual objectification and hetero-normativity. Get 'em while they're young!
I know some people won't like my comments but I actually think ohdeedoh is pretty decent about not having super-gendered stuff or sexualized images or images that objectify. And AT in general seems queer-friendly as well. So I don't get this on a meta-level, but I also don't know why this is here except as eye candy. I'm calling this out as sexist and hetero-normative, two things I don't expect to encounter here.
As a frequent visitor to Palm Springs, I'd say that the town itself -- and the image -- is hardly "hetero-normative". In fact, if I didn't know otherwise I'd think it might have been selected by a pair of gay dads, some of whom I've seen at local coffee shops! Now, I wouldn't want this in my house -- but as Tequila Red said, we're not all into embroidery hoops either. (And I do hope the mom realizes that her children may grow up far different from what she predicts.)
Can anyone identify that crib set though? I love it!
I mean... a nursery seems like a strange thing to be offended by. And I'm pretty sure she was saying that tongue-in-cheek. Not everyone takes themselves So Seriously!
Love this. You can get prints of that photo here: http://www.yellowkorner.com/photos/717/poolside-gossip.aspx
yeah.....not my favorite. kinda creeps me out. sorry. feels very surface.
LOVE... please see the genius in this people! Also - I think I would have loved a room like this as a kiddo!
admire the creativity in thinking outside the box
keep trying
Not my thing but having spent the long hours up at night in the early weeks/months, I can see why any mom might want to look at this while nursing/feeding as opposed to a blank wall or cute decal. If this is her happy place, go for it. And if she just liked it, go for it. It's fun!
Pretty sure the crib set is Serena and Lily - if not, they have very similar styles.
oh my god. I LOVE this room!!! It is beyond fabulous. Just amazing and so inspiring and absolutely fab! WELL DONE!
I think this nursery is AMAZING! LOVE IT!
The photograph on the wall is actually a removable wall sticker/mural and they are available from a UK company called Surface View (www.surfaceview.co.uk). It's a Slim Aarons photo called 'Poolside Gossip'. A mural of this image in size 3000mm W x 2000mm H is approx US$650. You can also order them in various print sizes and murals can be ordered in any size. There are heaps of different images and styles to choose from.
