We love innovative entryway solutions (especially for small spaces) so when we stumbled across Paola's IKEA hack of the Mackis desktop organizer, we had to learn more. Resources and how-to after the jump.
Paola featured this idea on her blog, Creativity Channel and included the things you'll need and how she achieved this DIY.
You'll need;
- 2 Mackis organizers
- 4 screws
- Paint, (if you want)
You'll want to pre-drill 2 holes in the bottom of each Mackis and also drill 4 holes in the wall (making sure they are level). Simply mount to the wall and you'll have yourself a space saving entryway organizer.

doesn't really look that sturdy, and the bottom of the one on the right looks bowed in. Just seems like a good chance to rip this out of your wall without the proper support

wow. nice. i could see this done with a few other pieces like the import-walnut (solid wood) "ESTETISK" pieces... now i'll be walking around ikea with my head tilted to the side envisioning new uses for stuff.
I could see how a good thwack might rip the screws out of the wall, but a few inexpensive mounting brackets from the hardware store would probably help without complicating the process much.
love it, but wish it was painted a fun color!
If I was going to duplicate this, I'd attach the two Mackis organisers to a secondary piece of wood across the bottom, (to reinforce the long edge), use small angle brackets to help keep it solidly attached to the wall, and also be sure to use a large metal washer on the inside to help support each attachment point. As long as the places where it is attached to the wall are either screwed into the studs, or into proper wall anchors, it should be quite sturdy.

Yes Lovelyrita I want to paint it, but I haven't yet decided the color. You suggest something?I use it for keys, mail, organizer, gloves, sunglasses and it' s enough strong !! I have thought to something else to substain it but for my use it isn't necessary and I love it so..clean!

oh, the possibilities! this could work as a night stand in a small guest room.
i think it looks sturdy enough - it would encourage me to keep it tidy and not pile stuff there! i'd maybe add some hooks below for the purse?
