We're huge fans of Japanese paper balloons. In my son's nursery, I was lucky to find a variety of animal-shaped paper balloons and hung them as a mobile.
We just came across another great idea to display paper balloons. Hang them from stripped branches. It's a beautiful way to have a "blooming tree" indoors in the midst of winter.

These are so pretty. Where can you find them?
I've tried finding paper balloons, bit no luck. Any online sources?
Wow!! I did the very same thing! My son loves the way the animal balloons flutter about. I bought my balloons in Toronto, www.thepaperplace.ca
I love those paper balls and I used to sell them in my old shop. I think that I've seen them recently at the Japanese store Kyotoya at 23 W.19th, in NYC . They have a website kyotoyany .com but the balls are not on the site.
Also "Old Japan" formerly of NYC is now in Boston. They also have a website Oldjapaninc.com.
I'm pretty certain that both of these stores would have them.
Thank you for the great sources!
i got mine from ginger and scallion and bought a wire clip mobile, modified it to fit the balloons. my little guy loves looking up at it from his crib. and they are so light weight that it just takes a bit of air to make them spin. such fun.

looks like their store is closing...50% off right now.
Old Japan Inc in the South End in Boston does carry the Animal Balloons - specifically, the Elephant, the Panda, the Tiger, the Monkey, the Racoon, the Penguin and the Whale. They also carry the Japanese Fusen paper balloons, which look like mini beach balls. Fun for kids 4 yrs and up to play with.
Hey "greater than thou" Griffin, (2/26/10) you should probably check your ego. Pointing out a grammatical error...really? Stay off the blogs if you can't be nice.
